TATIC MAMAL AND
HIS ROOTS OF GOLD
– SECOND PART –
Pablo Hernández Encino
Introduction:
This is a trip to the land of fantasy. The dreams and feelings of the Ancient Tzeltal people of Petalcingo that became the most fascinating and crazy adventures in the unbelievable world of lord Tatic Mamal and his daughter, goddess Shinula. An infinite space where time is non-existent, where hunger and the cold are never felt. Will Tatic Mamal save the world with its powerful roots of gold from the cruel inclemencies of man? Or also damage the earth with his sophisticated experiments. People thought that he caused earthquakes. And on the other hand my mother and her little understanding of natural phenomena, thought that the earth was turning just like flipping a tortilla in the griddle when it was trembling.
And so, let’s go on a journey towards the kingdom of mister Tatic Mamal going back towards different stages of the time and different epochs. Nicholas was brought by the same Tatic Mamal to give faith and testimony of everything what is going to happen within this unknown world.

Chapter 1
Once again, Tatic Mamal is sitting in his seat after being on foot a long time attending to his son Shanhuinic and threatening Nicholas to send him to jail after sentencing him to death if he is found guilty of these facts against the person of Shanhuinic.
But that’s not how it happened, fortunately he is free of any guilt, and at the moment he is standing before the old man very attentively listening to what he is saying. Still, he is not used to this nightmare that is starting to unfold. With his shocked face and his eyes nailed to the floor, he is spinning and turning his hat pinching at the border.
This is the Kingdom of the Lord Tatic Mamal whom generations and generations of the inhabitants of the village have been speaking of. They were not wrong. As they dreamed it, they thought, imagined and believed it. All structures of this immense and majestic Palace are gleaming and all the objects found here are said to be made of gold. This enclosure is where the throne is precisely found, in front of these enormous halls we’ve talked about. This floating seat structure of gold and diamond, is located above of these four gold, metal bars stick out of the ground, but without connecting with the seat. These four metal bars represent a quarter of the Earth, they represent the four cardinal points. Every corner of the Earth is exposed to the terrestrial movements when Tatic Mamal moves one of these bars to any part of the Earth. Even today, there are some people out there that suddenly it occurs to them to talk about Tatic Mamals roots of gold or the Hill of Ahkabal-ná, who ever heard comments to this regard and believed about these facts.
At this moment it is 11: 30 at night in the earth world, but here in the Kingdom of Tatic Mamal, this madness of running towards time and always arriving late in the big cities doesn’t exist. In this moment there is no noise that interferes in the world where Nicholas begins to live. Petalcingo is also in absolute silence, only the sorcerers and witches that mind their own business as always, walk around doing their antics but without causing any scandal. Some drunks walk in some streets and in the dark. The famous Tatic Mamal that we all know, has begun to address their words and direct his mesmerizing gaze into the eyes of Nicholas. And this has put him in a very difficult situation. Even though Nicholas doesn’t want to raise his eyes to meet the gaze of the elderly man, at times he would from side to side, at this time his will power is overshadowed by the powerful voice of the elderly man. But as time passes, and given a bit of courage to begin to deal with all the situations that await him.
Thoughts soar. These are the thoughts of Nicholas who has flown into the old days, recalling everything his grandparents had talked about with him. Perhaps they are the same narratives that he was told, only that he never believed in them. But many things start to go through his mind, little by little he ends up believing in them. Previously his only thought was in his bottle of brandy, and perhaps that has been the reason why Tatic Mamal chose him, to show him that there is no doubt of his existence.
At that moment and after traveling almost 30 years backwards on his existence, he has begun to coordinate his ideas well, according to him, everything that his grandparents had also recounted to him he has accepted, and of course believing in Tatic Mamal and what he knows about him. Nicholas already feels a little more silent, and has difficulty modulating his tongue to pronounce some words and asking Tatic Mammal about the strange structure of his seat that has bothered him since he arrived here. Now it seems that his curiosity has plucked up some courage, leaving little by little that same fear that had invaded him. He believes that it is the opportune time to ask these questions and feel a little more at peace.
–What do these metal rods beneath your chair do, Mr. Tatic Mamal? Are these the roots of gold that are talked about by so many of my people?– asked Nicholas to Tatic Mamal very gently.
–You just mentioned it! Your fellow citizens will not have wronged me like you have. They have always believed in me and my children since our emergence in this kingdom that now belongs to us. They gave us life and power with their deep faith and trust, and thanks to that we are as tangible as you. The only difference is that we continue to be fed by the faith and hope of the people. Understood? I made you come here just to prove to you my existence, to show you who I really am, and to see with your own eyes who Tatic Mamal is and what I am dedicated to. That’s the mission you have to fulfill,– Tatic Mamal explained to Nicholas.
–I’m trying to remember everything… everything that the people chatted about sir. I didn’t believe in the stories of our grandparents, but now I’m so amazed. It seems like all of this is a dream,– Nicholas responded.
–Yes! These are my roots. And through these roots I am in intercommunication with the ORB. And these metallic objects are composed of pure solid gold. Look at how they shine and how they change color! Isn’t that a wonder? Ha, ha! ha, ha! Until now no ambitious animal, called man has discovered me. But the day they discover me, they will fight and kill like dogs for these belongings of mine. Thus, my roots are designed to give gradual movements to Earth and whose effects are dependent on my will. If you’ve ever heard that people speak of earthquakes and other phenomena, it is precisely me who causes everything,– said Tatic Mamal.
–These roots of mine are intercontinental, and transoceanic. There are no hills, volcanoes, seas, or depths that exist. There are no barriers that hamper. It is because of this that that the ground can tremble in any moment, in any place and in any scale. I just mentioned to you that my roots have no barriers, neither does anyone exist that thinks about my powers. Never that! Never! Only the Tzeltales, my allies,– said Tatic Mamal.
–Then it is true that you shake my world? If you saw how scared we are when it is trembling. You would run with the people between the chickens, between the pigs and dogs,– said Nicholas.
–You have been right in asking this question! I will demonstrate to you step by step each of my activities in detail, but all this will be in its opportune time. The importance is that you are already here to see with your own eyes what happens here every night,– said Tatic Mamal.
–You know what, Sir Tatic Mamal? From the morning that I left my house, I have not drunken from my posol(a boiled corn drink), I am thirsty and hungry like a choj(a tiger). I said it to him when I asked him if I could wash my clothes. I cannot bear the grimness of my clothes, bloody, and already smelling horribly, Sir. This is the second time I am asking, Sir Tatic,– said Nicholas.
–I already heard you. I am not a fool. I know what I am doing. But do not worry, because in a few moments you will forget everything and not even realize it,– Tatic Mamal said.
–How am I not going to worry, for when I entered here I already felt like fainting. But…– Nicholas said.
–But, what?– answered Tatic Mamal.
–You’re a real colmilludo (an articulate person) Cashlán (a refined and cultured person)! With what ease you respond my questions. That is the same ease that the cashlanes people would respond to me. They are very smart, and I, myself struggle speaking my own language,– Nicholas answered.
–Your ignorance makes you confused,– said Tatic Mamal with a tone of mockery.
–Well Yes,– replied Nicholas sadly.
–After my son had
