Author’s Advice
I would like to begin this story by thanking the tribal nation that has brought the realization of my past lives to me—through prayer, love, and spirit medicine. To my children, brothers, sisters, maestros, shaman of the Amazon Jungle, and my loving and supportive wife, Mary Ann: All of you have been the presenters of my reality in my lives beyond this third dimension. It is with a grateful and loving heart that I write about love beyond the boundaries of the physical heart—and as characterized by Hollywood movies—and share my awareness of how the God of all gods, which passes all understanding, actively loves me without judgment. For all the love that I have received from those I love, I give you this gift to show that you have always mattered to me.
—James
Preface
T his book is for everyone who chooses to be free of limiting boundaries and actively continues to expand their definition of what love is supposed to be, as of this moment in their life. The Monk and the Tree is a document that is beyond imagination, and can (in my words) only be described through the experiences and the memories of love, which I have been shown by Mother Ayahuasca (Vine of the Spirit).
I do not know the location where my story takes place. My life at that time did not distinguish between country and state boundaries. As a tree, I was in one spot, and I could only experience the life that surrounded me through vibrational communication.
I believe the reason my Ayahuasca journey was so deep is because I received the blessing of the Dao (which can be also pronounced in Cantonese as Tao). This blessing enabled me to be open to the lesson I received from the plant medicine during this sacred ceremony. I believe another part of the reason this experience was so deep and meaningful to me, was because I emptied out my cup of ego.
There are artists who can paint a picture of an Ayahuasca journey, and their visions are beautiful and full of vibrant colors. They experience something so beautiful that they cannot find the words, so they paint their vision. Then there are many people who see and experience nothing; and then there are people whose lives are changed forever—through the many realizations they get to see within their true spirit. These people will never fear death, because death means nothing more than the opportunity for them to transcend and to experience a new life after they have lived this one.
Before I took my first Ayahuasca journey, I did not know what to expect. I had never consumed any plant medicines before this event. I read articles and watched several YouTube videos about Ayahuasca, so I could prepare myself for what to expect. I admit I was skeptical and scared, but after learning about this ancient ceremony; I was more open to receiving a lesson using this particular plant medicine. Through Ayahuasca and through the Dao, my whole being came unraveled over the course of several very intense hours of spiritual work.
Now I believe that we are truly a spirit, and using the word death in context of spirit misplaces it. The word death, to most people, means that someone or something no longer exists and is gone forever. Never forget that we are a spirit that was created from nothing, yet conscious of life, and we have a compassionate yet complex understanding of the essence of life which also possesses that special ingredient within us to preserve all life.
We are told that our spirit resides in our human body, and we are nothing more than our human bodies which are bound to the Earth, thinking about death, and therefore these beliefs are holding our spirit back from its true nature. Our spirit’s true nature is to expand, much like the ongoing expansion of the universe. Everything is connected spiritually. It’s all a matter of waking up and realizing the I am
about yourself.
There was something formless and perfect
before the universe was born.
It is serene. Empty.
Solitary. Unchanging.
Infinite. Eternally present.
It is the mother of the universe.
For lack of a better name,
I call it the Tao.
It flows through all things,
inside and outside, and returns
to the origin of all things.
The Tao is great.
The universe is great.
Earth is great.
Man is great.
These are the four great powers.
Man follows the earth.
Earth follows the universe.
The universe follows the Tao.
The Tao follows only itself.
—Lao Tzu
Tao Te Ching
Chapter One
T he Earth has a blissful way of thriving. Nothing has ever overcome the Earth. It is a beautiful place to live for so many creatures, and the Earth shall continue to love its tenants (the high and the low) for all eternity.
I want to see what is going on above the ground,
says the Tree’s spirit to its Dao. "I want to feel the wind through my leaves, taste the energy of the sun, embrace the soil with my roots, and be enjoyed by the creatures of the land above me."
In reply, the Dao answers, "Your path will be long. There are many lessons along your way. Always be true to yourself, and you will prevail. Others, like you, are at war to conquer the land, which has provided for them all their life. Be not a consumer. Just be. Do not seek; for the lessons will be presented, and the answers will be revealed. Remember: you will not be denied the sunlight, the wind, or the soil, for these are three unconditional gifts
