To know Malik is to love Malik. He has been my friend for 20 years. Malik is a gentle, compassionate, spiritual person who has a tremendous passion for life. He loves deeply and is empathetic. In many ways he has the innocence of a child because he sees only the good in everyone and bears no malice towards others. He is captivated by the beauty and tranquility of nature. His love for animals is very apparent in his poetry. I have witnessed his tenderness and patience with frightened and injured animals when he was my assistant at my Veterinary practice. He has a very calming effect on both pets and people. His sense of humor, friendliness and positive attitude touch all who meet him. His soul is one with God.

In our great country most Americans agree Dog is man’s best friend. I personally couldn’t agree more. However I would add to that familiar phrase And Malik Kalonji is EVERY animal’s best friend. His kindness for animals is as natural as breathing. He will always go the extra mile to save the life of any animal or simply greeting every animal with a caring embrace of love. No matter how many dignitaries, superstars or Heads of States may be in attendance at an important event, if an animal is present Malik will greet that animal with the same affection and concern he would to anyone at the event. One of the most endearing characteristics about Malik besides his perennial optimism, infectious laugh and effervescent personality is the way he treats every animal he encounters as a unique being. He totally focuses on that animal to make sure that it feels safe and loved.

This book of love and poetry he wrote for his animal friends and animal lovers will make us all mindful of our responsibility to be an advocate for the love, caring, and rights of these creatures of God who can’t speak for themselves. I’ll say it again Malik is every animal’s best friend and I thank God that Malik is one of my best friends.

    Consider The Source…

    An Introduction to our Author

    By Cleveland Brown

Common sense dictates that choosing the breeder is ultimately more significant than choosing the breed when shopping for a pet. Invariably, it dictates the result more—and alters your journey in amazing ways. The importance of honesty and the issue of heart reach far in that process, but that reaches even further when information, perspective, rhythm, and rhyme are the commodity. So CONSIDER THE SOURCE when reading MOTHER EARTH’S POET. You’ll get to know Malik Kalonji and you’ll be glad you did.

I can speak for the heart and soul, as well as the previously mentioned rhythm and rhyme, of Malik Kalonji with a lifetime of experience. Malik is family, not as an annoying cliché; he was the partner of my beloved mother, Shirley for the last, and in many ways the most significant, decade of her life. Malik, and his son Simba, lived in my home for a dozen plus years that incorporated growth and reality in disproportionate doses.

Our history includes a Thanksgiving dinner in my home, many years ago, I invited Mr. Kalonji and another esteemed friend of mine, Mr. Ernest Thomas, who had starred as the central character Roger Thomas in the ABC TV
