    ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

As with any major building project, it takes a great team to make all the elements work together in a book. I want to extend my personal and sincere thanks to:

Daisy Williams—my wife. Know that I love you, and I’’m thankful to the Lord for your being in my life. Thanks for being present in my life.

Our children—to all five of our wonderful children and their spouses. I am so proud and blessed by what you have become and for your love for the Lord Jesus. Thank you for your love and support.

Our grandchildren—Some time ago I was told, If you think you love your children, just wait until those grandchildren come. Now I truly know what that means. Know that all four of you hold a special place in my heart, and you give me so much inspiration.

To my siblings—Denise, Pamela, Michael, and Michelle, thank you all for playing an important part in my life. I have become who I am because of the role you have played in my life. All of you, in your own special way, remind me of our deceased parents.

First Baptist Church Family—Thank you, First Church, for your support down through the years and for loving me unconditionally. You have played a special role in my life, and I am grateful to the Lord for my divine assignment as your leader.

Pastor Wilbert Ridgely Jr.—Thank you for being there down through the years, and I shall never forget your support of and push for this book. Your friendship is cherished.

In memory of my parents—Thanks, Mom and Dad (Thelma and James). I am truly blessed that you have been in my life and for how the Lord used you to shape me and teach me so much about life. Thank you for showing me how to survive the hell.

    INTRODUCTION

Growing up in Washington DC produces so many memories—some good and some not so good. I lived in the projects during my early years. I
