So you want to learn basic astrology. Well, you’re reading the right book. Throughout this book, you will see just how easy it is to not only learn about yourself, your family, and your relationships but also acquire a self-understanding to all of the above. Why things happen in life, and how astrology can help you not only to understand why they happen but also step in and take hold of certain situations. So just sit back, relax, and begin reading. Throughout this book, you will see just how simple it is going to be. Let’s begin with the psychodynamics in astrology.
What does this mean? Psychodynamic are invaluable tools in enabling you to understand yourself. Your horoscope outlines who you are, your strengths and weaknesses, what you are attracted to, and why. A horoscope also helps you understand your partner, family, and friends.
You will need to begin with the sun sign, the month, which is determined by the date and year of your birth. This is the start of your existence. Although many people may be born on the same date as you, even the same year, no two people are alike. Characteristics may be similar—but not the same. At the time of birth, you hold, a frozen moment,
a point that makes you your own individual person. It is the core of your existence, different from everyone else. Even twins have separate existences. At times, they may feel as though they are one, but they are as different as day and night, each striving to show his own individuality
Although you are always your sun sign, your life revolves within that personal circle (a large pie cut into twelve equally sliced pieces held together within that zodiac of 360 degrees), belonging to you alone, which takes you through many cycles and stages throughout your existence on this plane. Your sun sign contains the very core of you being. This is the point in you where you are most susceptible to physical or emotional injury. With that in mind, understand because your sun sign is where you are open to attack or liable to succumb to temptation, it is exactly what you will protect the most (selfpreservation and survival), at all costs. The sun sign embodies your sense of can do.
The terminology introduced in this book will be repeated over and over again so that you may become familiar with it. This will help you understand how it works in each sun sign, house, and planet placement, and eventually will be able to construct a chart later in the book.
When you start with the first sun sign, you will see the term quadruplicity . They are Cardinal, Fixed, and Mutable. Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn are the Cardinal signs. Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius are the Fixed signs; and Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces are the Mutable signs of the zodiac.
You will also see the word element or triplicity. The elements are Fire, Earth, Air, and Water. Other terms used are positive and negative polarity. Positive polarity simply means masculine, father ruled, or dominated. Negative polarity means feminine, mother ruled, or dominated. The positive polarity signs are the Fire and Air elements. The negative polarity signs are the Earth and Water elements.
At the end of each sun sign, you will see the word decants. The decants arrange that particular sun sign in segments of degrees. Degrees are divided by 10 days. From 0 to 10 degrees will depict the first 10 days of that sun sign. This segment will enforce the true description of that person who was born in that decant. The second segment is from 10 to 20 degrees (or days). The sun sign placed in this decant would depict the next element in common with that sun sign. An example would be someone born between on July 1 through July 10th. In this case, the native born between these dates would take on some of the element of the next sun sign that it is in harmony with it (this position is the second decant). The next element, or Triplicity, in common with Cancer in this decant would be Scorpio (both Cancer and Scorpio are Water elements, which produces harmony between the two signs).
The last decant is 20 to 30 degrees (or 20 to 30 days). The native in this decant would be further away from the strongest description of that sun sign. Another example would be someone born between July 11 and July 20 (the last decant of Cancer). In this particular segment, the Cancerian sun sign begins to diminish its characteristics and is influenced by the next sun sign in the same element, which would be Pisces (they are in harmony in the same element). Both Cancer and Pisces are Water elements.
At this point, you will now begin to understand exactly where to start. As with the birth of a child, we must start at the beginning, with all twelve sun signs. The first four sun signs are in the emotional group.
THE I GROUP
"
I AM AGGRESSIVE"
4.pdfAries is the first sign of the zodiac. Its quadruplicity (sign) is Cardinal, and its element is Fire. Because their polarity is positive (masculine), males are more comfortable in this sign than females. Aries is ruled by the fiery planet Mars and is an intellectual. It is also an emotional sign. It is the seed of man. Aries rules the head and is the most passionate sign. On a positive level, Aries is intellectual, youthful, naive, and generous. This sign is given to morals, physical strength, and innovation, and is direct and forceful (the alpha male or female). The Arian sun sign symbolizes the beginners, moving toward objectives to achieve success.
On a negative level, Aries is compulsive and impulsive, which can lead to arrogance and disappointment. If Aries fails, they fall into depression. Aries suffers deep-seated insecurities. They are attached to both mother and father, and they are torn between both. The Arian’s childhood is a battleground, with the child not wanting to choose sides between parents. Their arrogance is a compensation for their fear. Praise and security lead them to great success. They fear failure and rejection. Aries has a blind spot, which is an inability to assess human nature, from lack of insight. They are always physically beautiful because they are ruled by Mars (hot). They are fast moving, and once they end relationships, they never look back. They are high achievers. They are idealistic, not strategic (Arian behavior is based on ideas, focusing their energy on long-range planning). They use the frontal attack. This can be interpreted as being high-strung. They are materialistic and must have material rewards. Aries is selfish. They are totally committed to winning, and if they do not, they can defeat themselves. Aries rules the central nervous system and the head.
