Merriam Webster’s Dictionary defines ADVENTURE as any exciting or remarkable experience.
With today’s economy and fast paced society, it’s easy for our dreams of adventure to get lost at the bottom of an ever-increasing list of priorities and responsibilities. With hectic schedules and careers, it’s important to step away from the chaos and have an adventure now and again. Within the pages of this book, John Howard (John) reveals paths to adventures hidden in plain sight. Whether you’re driving to a client’s business or flying coast to coast to close a major deal, John’s book takes you on an extraordinary journey beyond the boardroom to the heart of America. His travel principles show you how to turn a full- scale business itinerary into an experience that will expand your horizons, and probably never forget!
John pursues adventure with the same dedication, tenacity and passion he applies to his work. With over a decade of corporate experience in accounting software and project management, he has accumulated countless miles of business travel, and earned his Road Warrior status by having crisscrossed his way through each of the 50 states and a score of countries abroad. An avid thrill seeker, John takes us with him as he navigates his way across the U.S. and shares insights into some of the most fascinating destinations this Nation has to offer. Blazing the trial off the beaten path, his intentionality for each adventure keeps the reader wondering what remarkable location he’ll end up next. His formula for recreation is outlined in an assortment of diverse destination and activities from weekend road trips to Mount Rushmore and the Grand Canyon, to sightseeing in New York City and Chicago, skydiving over California, scuba diving in Hawaii, and even glacier hiking in Alaska. If it’s marked on a map, chances are, John’s been there and got the t-shirt… or magnet (as you will learn)!
Understanding how to turn your business travel into exciting adventures is only the beginning. John’s perspective on travel will inspire you to take a leap of faith and rekindle a spirit of excitement as you hop into the driver’s seat and answer the call to becoming a true Road Warrior!
Buckle your seatbelt and enjoy the journey!

9781434347916_TEXT_FQA.pdfIntroduction
Hello, I’m John, an experienced world traveler in chosen career disciplines of Project Management and software accounting practice. Most of my business travel stems from a bevy of client services within the United States, and evenincluding some spanning into foreign countries across the globe. This career spans more than a decade of service to Fortune 100, 500, and other types of companies, government, education, and wholesale retail infrastructures. It has tallied more than one-million-airline-miles from various airlines, incorporating other perks such as auto rental rewards, and hotel premier statuses.
9781434347916_TEXT_FQA.pdfLike many of you business travelers and others in corporate families who do not travel, my career is replete with budgets, deadlines, technology demands, and stringent minute-by-minute commitments. So, in today’s fast pace business world, many of my career endeavors are serviced outside of my hometown, Orange County, California. That means airfare, lodging, auto rentals, meals, incidentals, and other expensesall included on the client’s account! This also accumulates large amounts of time away from home and family. If this sounds like you in your career, I want to give a sense of elation about what you’re doing, where you’re going, and how to get back at those huge demands placed on you; by living an adventure outside of your career wherever your business travels take you!
Well over eighty percent of my business travel is logged within the United States of America, however I’ve ventured off to exotic places around the world, such as South Africa, England, Australia, Fiji, Uganda, Russia, New Zealand, Finland, Sweden, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Estonia, Holland, Norway, Philippines, and China to name a few.
Inside the United States of America there are myriad unique and enchanting locations to visit, like nowhere else in the world. A few of my favorites are Mount Rushmore, Bryce Canyon, Smithsonian Institute, Grand Canyon, Statue of Liberty, Cape Cod, Plymouth Rock, Stone Mountain, Hearst Castle, Gateway Arch, Meramec Caverns, and Devil’s Tower. There are even fun adventures, outside of site seeing found at many locations throughout this great land of opportunity to immerse yourself into. Such as on a family get-away, scuba diving, skydiving, flight-seeing, wine tasting, or rollercoaster thrill riding. Each of these ison my personal Bucket List
of tourist hotspots to visit and experience before I kick the bucket!
What does your bucket list look like today?
Fortunately to date, my business sojourns comprise of traveling to all fifty states, completing a checkmark on the bucket list and allowed adventures from sea to shining sea to be captured throughout this true account. Many of these locations are experienced right inside the client’s home state, and a few others from traveling outside the client’s home state. For example, if my engagement was in Newark, New Jersey I may have ventured off to Manhattan, New York, across the bay, to experience the Empire State Building.
Illustrated within is how to live an adventure outside of a career obligation, without fear of terminated through excessive adventure on the client’s token (client paying expenses). Much more could be stated about living a life of a road warrior, and even more for a career that demands so much speckled with experiencing unique and interesting places. Not to mention, the United States of America possess one of the richest variety of tourism represented by landmarks, museums, parks, public exhibits, and a World Wonder. Many modern-day road warriors have accomplished more than just prostitution (oops, business obligations for high-end clients to receive money); we have become part of an elite, sacred membership, engulfed in quick adventures across this great nation.
Each chapter reflects a particular adventure site traveled to; comprised of a snapshot of that adventure, titled "adventure, along with a bit of trivial called a
fun fact, pictures of that particular site. As a gage, outlined is the
cost" incurred to immerse in the particular adventure site, along with some insight of the adventure planed dubbed "tidbit!" All of this information will illustrate a greater level of detail and grant some confidence in incorporating an adventure on your next business trip, on your next family vacation, or wherever your travels take you! So go ahead and plan you next adventure, you’ll be glad you did, your family will praise you, and your career client’s will complement you on your cheerfulness while at their site.
I also want to point out; this book is not a begin-all or end-all encapsulation of a particular adventure. However, please feel free to purchase those travel guides at the local book retailer or the adventure site you travel to. The goal is to illustrate an in depth picture of a quick sojourn to a many of the tourist sites in thiscountry. It will also illustrate a snapshot to make the best of your time and money on the road to summon that adventure quelling a bevy of excuses you harbor on why not to have fun. Remember, An excuse is a skin of reason stuffed with a lie!
(Ron Puryear, motivational speaker and mentor).
Mount Rushmore
Fun Fact: There were approximately four hundred workers who worked at Mount Rushmore during the carving process from October 1927 to October 1941 and no lives were lost during this amazing achievement.
