About this ebook

Year in and year out The Conner's played the same old role of "The Church Family" during Christmas whenthe localchurch would hold it's annual Christmas program. After all, it was the thing to do.....after all, Jake Conner was a man of tradition and wouldn't think ofmissing it.It was achanceto clear his conscience and make up for spending the other 364 days a year living life pretty much the way he saw fit. But this religious "cloak" he wore didn't fool his family and it sure didn't fool God.

After amoving Christmas service, Jake's own teenage son Billy begins to realize there just might be more to this "religion" thing then meets the eye. Unbeknownst to him, his older sister Barbara comes home from college with some rather startling news of her own, and what she has to share will change the lives of not only the Conner's but the people around them......

Jessica sat alone in a darkened apartment. The emotional pain was almost more than she could bear as she played back the events in her mindthat led her to this point. Oh, how she hurt.

Rejected by her own family she had little use for anybody, least of all those hypocrites that sat in the pews celebrating the birth oftheir God with hollow lip service. That's how she saw it anyway. And why not? She didn't have enough fingers to count how many of these "holier than thou's" left her feeling like she was worth little more than a glance, a negative comment or a roll of the eyes. But then her own parents rejected her, so why expect anything more from anyone including God??

The snow was coming down hard on the little town of Sipesville. Christmas day was only a few short days away so despite its threat to make rush hour traffic as it was humorously referred to in this town so humble in size, was still a welcome sight. Who in there right mind doesn’t appreciate a white Christmas? Leastwise, that’s the way many New Englanders think, and the Sipesville residents were no different. Or, as the village children thought about it, who in their right mind wouldn’t appreciate a longer Christmas vacation?

The local church down the street was having a special service this evening and as it concluded, and the parishioners left the service, they of course were greeted by the Pastor on the way out. The children were astounded at the large snowflakes which made their way down to them from the heavens above. The smaller ones were tugging at the coat sleeves of their parents as they could barely contain their excitement as many parents this night were going to work on various Christmas activities such as making cookies, playing all kinds of CD’s and even digging up some old records they enjoyed when they were kids themselves.

Aaaah, the excitement of Christmas was in the air and there was nothing quite like it!

As the snow continued to fall and many folks gathered around the end of the large stairway of the church, the scene looked more and more like something out of a painting. Why, even the best painter, despite his visionary type qualities could never quite fit into his work the complexities and the depth of the human spirit behind the images he paints with his extensive skill.

Indeed, these folk that filled the pews this night had many issues in their lives. Issues that dare not a soul bring into the open for fear of rejection and judgment. With many, smiles

hid the deep hurt that seethed within the crevices of many a soul. The pain was hidden from the eyes of their fellow parishioners, but not from the eyes of omnipresent eyes of the Lord who knew the thoughts and hearts of men. Even the heartiest of smiles could not hide the inward truth of mans hurting soul. No, not from these eyes.

Indeed, some this night could have won an award for their performances, as they had played the role of traditional church parishioner quite well. However, this night would be like no other ever experienced for the family that made its way to the vestibule. The journey down the aisle from the pews was very slow as a traffic jam ensued making it difficult for anyone wishing to make a quick getaway near impossible as many packed in to see the special service put on by the church. The free dinner beforehand did lend its part in encouraging so many to come out this night. A group of volunteers had prepared all the food and their work received much praise from most who had partook in the gathering.

The people had worn their best clothing and put on their best appearance and that extended past the clothing they
