About this ebook

Every Boy Needs a Dad

The author has stepped into his own past to reflect upon how a youthful mind begins wondering about life. Who can a son turn to? Dad...who is put on the spot and finds his authority challenged by thoughts and expressions of his son's closest friend and his father, and he has to grapple with conflict when their influence clashes with Dad's perceptions and views. The young boy's observations are imbedded into his subconscious and begins to form him as a unique person.

Award-winning poet Robert Russell Marquardt takes another provocative step into your world in this delightful and amusing dialogue between a father and his young son, complimenting his other newly-released book: it's me... Rodney, a bold attempt at overhearing daily conversations between a brash but genuine young man and God. You will enjoy these digressions from the author's poetic form in his previously-published works from Authorhouse.

    Papa, a girl kissed me!

    Papa, a girl kissed me!

    Papa, a girl kissed me!

That means she likes you, Son

But kissing is for big people

I know, Son, but anyone can kiss someone if they like them

    Can boys kiss boys, Papa?

No, Son, they shouldn’t do that

"But why not, Papa? You said if you like someone you can

    kiss them"

"Well, I know, Son, but boys shouldn’t kiss boys. Only boys

    and girls should kiss"

Can I kiss a girl too, Papa?

If you want to, Son. If you like her, you can kiss her

"But my friend Billy would laugh, Papa. He said kissing

    is for sissies"

"Well, don’t worry about what Billy would think. Kissing

    isn’t for sissies, Son"

I’m glad, Papa. I think kissing a girl would be fun

    It is, Son, it is

Did you kiss a girl when you were a little boy, Papa?

    Yes, I did, Son

    Was it Mama?

    No, Son, it wasn’t Mama

    You kissed somebody besides Mama?

Well, yes, it was long before I met Mama

    Did she get a baby?

    Kissing doesn’t make babies, Son

    Then what does kissing do?

Well, it’s just a special way to show someone you like them

    I think I understand, Papa

    That’s good, Son

    Thank you, Papa

    Papa?

    Yes, Son?

I’m going to think about kissing a girl, Papa

    That’s good, Son

    I like Billy’s little sister

Where do babies come from, Papa?

    They come from me, Son

All babies come from you, Papa?!

Not all babies, Son, just the ones I want to make

Where do you keep them, Papa?

    Well, they’re inside of me

But I thought babies came from Mama

They do, but I have to put them inside Mama

Why doesn’t she just keep them, Papa?

"Well, Son, inside of me they’re just little seeds. Then I

    plant them inside Mama"

How may seeds do you have, Papa?

    Oh, millions, Son
