Preface
The Reverend Gary Strong has been in the ministry for over half a century, which is longer than the years that I have lived. When you have cared for people involved in the church life and reached out to the lost that long, you have something to say. Also, when you realize that your days on earth are numbered, you begin to concentrate your energies on what is most important. This, Gary has done. He definitely has something to say, and he speaks with Biblical authority on the most essential subject of all—Christ-like loving.
Having been a close friend of Gary’s for many years, I have listened to him talk about and watched him live a life of Christ-like loving. What he writes is birthed out of many experiences, a fair share of pain, and much study and reflection. I believe His Most Excellent Way will help you focus on what is most important. It will instruct and encourage you to live a life of Christ-like loving. It is God’s desire for all of us. When all is said and done, life is a virtual workshop in which God would teach us to love with His kind of love.
May God minister His grace to you, that you become a disciple of ‘His most excellent way’.

Endorsement
This book is more than a scholarly work on the subject of agape; it is a life message lived out by its author on a daily basis. The Apostle Paul once said, ‘For I will not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ hath not wrought by me’ (Romans 15:18). Pastor Strong writes from the perspective of what God has done in him and through him over a lifetime of serving the Lord.
In the pages of this book we have a message from the Father, through a spiritual father, and so it is more than mere words. These are life-transforming words from the Lord! After all is said and done, the ‘greatest of these is love’. This love, by definition, is a love both experienced and expressed, and it is this love that is the true mark of Jesus’ followers today.

Introduction
My first year as a Christian was under the ministry of Dr W.E. Sangster of the Methodist Central Hall, Westminster, London. I was impressed by his emphasis of Christ-likeness as the most important issue for Christian living. Within that year I fell in love with Beryl Cahill, a Sunday school teacher under Dr Sangster. We called to see and tell him of our plan to marry and that I would enter the Methodist ministry. We were captivated by the love that flowed out towards us from him. He gave us his undivided attention, enveloping us with fatherly care. After discussing with him our future plans, he said, ‘I believe you are well suited.’
Shortly after our engagement I returned to Zimbabwe; a year later Beryl joined me, and we were married within the year. On two occasions we received letters from Dr Sangster that exuded the same love we had received when we met him face to face. I read all of his books. The Path to Perfection and The Pure in Heart, in particular, dealt with the subject of Christ-like love. After fifty-four years in the ministry, my
