ISAAC Udo William Osisiogu is a retired professor of pharmacy of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He had also been a Federal Commissioner (minister), in Nigeria and was the Executive Director of a chemical company. He had the Chemist and Druggist Diploma from the former School of Pharmacy, Yaba, Lagos, and latter obtained the B.Pharm Degree from the School Of Pharmacy, University of London. He obtained a doctorate degree from Chelsea College of Science and Technology also of the University of London. In addition to being involved in various community activities he was one time chairman of the Franco-Nigerian chamber of commerce and Industry. The author has always had an interest in the arts. In 1978 he published Hannahs Poems and in 2008 his book Amara was published by Longman (Nig.) Plc.

    Preface

    The book Hannah’s Poems, was privately published in 1978 in honour of our late mother, Mrs. Hannah Afukwu Osisiogu.

    These poems are now separately used as pillars in the composition of the present book.

    Mr. S. C. Eluwa, an educationist (now late) had made constructive commentaries on some of the poems in Hannahs Poems which can be found in the Appendix of this Book.

    My thanks go to my wife, Lady Peggy Oyiya Osisiogu and my children, Mrs. Uzo Ekong, Dr. Udo Osisiogu, and Mr. Adonye Osisiogu for their encouragement and contribution during the writing of this Book.

    Chapter One

    A ripple of excitement ran through Johnny’s home when he returned after graduating from the University. With this achievement which was beyond his wildest dreams, it was expected that he would lift his parents from poverty to plenty and afford them the opportunity of savouring the sweet aroma of economic prosperity.

    Johnny’s village was situated in an unspoilt and tranquil countryside, a place of breath-taking beauty. He was born into a family of subsistence farmers and petty traders. His parents made him the center of their life. Although his fate and future seemed uncertain, he might on the balance of probability make it in life depending on certain factors, the most important of which was education.
