    When I was in high school, every other kid wanted to be a professional athlete or a rock ‘n roll star. My brother and I wanted to be Rock Stars. He had a guitar and I had a drum set. I wrote the lyrics and we made terrible music together. Then, we moved into a condo and the neighbors did not appreciate our musical compilations. But, I kept on making songs up in my head and writing lyrics.

    Meanwhile, I was studying creative writing with Mr. Bill Leikem. He was a very interesting hippie type of character with a Ph.D. in psychology. He told us stories about the 1960’s and 70’s. For example: meeting Martin Luther King Jr. when he first started his civil rights movement, participating in research at the university, then finding out it was a secret government project (hush hush), he was in one of the first groups of westerners to visit Communist China (Apparently, the only western literature was locked in glass case at the library in Beijing, it was a copy of The Godfather.), and he almost drowned while scuba diving when the hand of his dead brother came down from the sky and saved his life.

    The story that impressed me the most; was an account of something us students had never heard of, Chi Kung which he studied in China. The Chinese could use an invisible energy source to do a physical task. Mr. Leikam said it was like being hit with an invisible, soft pillow. On the other hand, there were several lessons that stuck with me. One was a meditation technique (Mind
