    The Taylor Swift Story: 1989-2009

    On December 13, 1989, Taylor Alison Swift was born in Reading, Pennsylvania, to parents Scott Kingsley Swift, a financial advisor, and Andrea Gardner Swift (née Finlay), a homemaker who worked previously as a mutual fund marketing executive.

    A young Taylor spent the early years of her life on a Christmas tree farm in Cumru Township in Pennsylvania, before the Swift family moved to a rented house in the suburban town of Wyomissing, Pennsylvania.

    At just nine years old, Taylor became interested in musical theater and performed in four Berks Youth Theatre Academy productions. She also travelled regularly to New York City for vocal and acting lessons.

    Taylor later saw inspiration in Shania Twain and thus shifted her focus toward country music. She was further inspired by Faith  Hill. After watching watching a documentary about Hill, Swift desired to travel to Nashville, Tennessee, to pursue a music career.

    At just eleven years of age, Taylor and her mother travelled to visit Nashville record labels and submitted a demo tape of Dolly Parton and Dixie Chicks covers, but Taylor was rejected for not standing out enough. The following year, Taylor learned how to play three chords on a guitar, leading to her first effort as a songwriter, with the composition Lucky You.
