The main target for the book series „Heavy-Haulage-History“ is to collect and preserve as much as possible of old documents about the development of the heavy transport industry to show the ingenuity and brilliance at that time - both on the vehicle manufacturers and the vehicle operator's side. With this first attempt (Vol. 1) about the M•R•S Ltd., I just started the book-series about "Heavy-Haulage-History" and based on more than 40 years experience while working in this area and my big document archive I am motivated to let some more volumes to follow.

This first book is based on an original brochure of the M•R•S Ltd., approximately dated around 1930. To preserve the authenticity of this old brochure and the special point of view on „modern transport“ at that time, I left the original wording unchanged and added some descriptions of related Patents.

Documentation of truck and trailer development

The development of trucks has been well documented in the last 25 years by different literature and the public interest on these topics is growing. Big gaps gained open about the history of the truck body-work and trailers development.

The trailer as a main element for the road transport

As this section of the vehicle construction work is so extensive, it is comprehensible that no author has attempted to document this part of technical development. I considered this for quite some time, but now I am taking the first step into the planned documentation.

I will not document the standard trailers and semi-trailers. Instead I will try focus on the on the heavy haulage units, only.

The border between normal trailers and heavy haulage vehicles

There is not always a clear border between normal trailers and those for heavy haulage. I will call vehicles heavy haulage units when they are heavier or bigger / longer than those vehicles which can be used on public roads without any special permit.

The planned documentation about the heavy haulage history

Under the title Heavy-Haulage-History I have been working on a material collection for a long time and so I try to start with a first publication about one part of vehicle construction work: the development of trailers (may be also self-propelled units), but only those vehicles, which are used for heavy haulage purposes.
