A Moment with God for Sunday School Teachers - Sarah McGinley

    FOR NURSERY WORKERS

And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: and his disciples rebuked those that brought them. But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.

    —Mark 10:13-14 KJV

Lord, help me as I prepare for the infants who will be entrusted to my care today; they are all so different. Some have been coming for months and know this is a safe place. Some are just a few weeks old, still asleep in the comfort of a mother's arms or cradled in the strong arms of a new father. As they wake up to a strange face, let them feel your love in my touch and in my voice. Let me speak words of reassurance to new parents, and help me greet each infant as lovingly as I would your baby son, Jesus. Amen.

    FOR TEACHERS OF TODDLERS

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.

    —1 John 4:7 NIV

Dear God, this is an exciting age to teach! The children come into my Sunday school room full of energy, ready to run, jump, clap, laugh, or cry. They don't really know one another yet or seek out a particular friend. Help me, Lord, to facilitate their loving interactions with one another. Remind me, again and again, that they are old enough to learn your greatest lesson—that you are love. Help me be the vessel of your love for the children. Guide me as I play with them, nurture them, read to them, sing with them, and pray with them.
