    Born in Casablanca (Morocco) in 1954.

    Katherine Pancol was born in Morocco in 1954 and moved to France at the age of five. Early on in her career, she worked as a French and Latin teacher and then as a journalist, before meeting a publisher who encouraged her to write a novel. The resulting book, entitled Moi d’abord (Me First), was published in 1979. The following year, Pancol moved to New York to take creative writing classes at Columbia University. She wrote three novels during her time in the USA, before returning to France, where she devoted herself to writing full-time.

    Pancol has published 14 novels to date, two of which have been translated into English (The Yellow Eyes of Crocodiles, 2006 and The Slow Waltz of Turtles, 2008). Along with Les écureuils de Central Park sont tristes le lundi (The Squirrels in Central Park are Sad on Mondays, 2010), these novels form a bestselling trilogy. She has also written another trilogy, Muchachas (Spanish for girls), which feature some of the same characters.
