About this ebook

Jo

I thought becoming a widow less than two years after becoming a wife would be the most difficult thing I would ever face, but when my late husband's farm hands robbed me blind and left my ranch on the brink of disaster, I had to reconsider. I didn't know anything about running a ranch let alone bringing one back from impending doom. When my banker kindly referred a friend of his to help me turn things around, I gratefully took him up on his offer. From the moment Benjamin Cotter's dusty cowboy boots and well-worn Stetson set foot on the Triple T, I wanted him. It wasn't just the way he filled out his Wrangler's, either. He was everything I didn't know I needed.

Ben

I never thought of myself as the kind of guy that would step in to save a widow's ranch. Of course, Joanna Bascom wasn't your typical widow. A transplant to Wyoming, she didn't know a thing about running a ranch. She had backbone, though, and that goes a long way toward making up for not knowing the difference between a bull and a steer. When she asked me to help her save the Triple T, I tried to convince myself that it was out of the goodness of my heart and not because of the hardness in my jeans that I agreed. I found out soon enough that it wasn't just the ranch I was interested in saving.

Jo and Ben combine forces to save the Triple T ranch. Their passion for their project and each other soon boils over. Climb in the saddle and enjoy this short, sexy romp perfect for an afternoon read. Are you ready for a ride?

Who doesn’t love a cowboy? The way they swagger in their Wranglers, that John Wayne hardness in their eyes, and how they ooze masculinity were all part of the cowboy charisma that sucked me in completely. Allen was a cowboy with a capital ‘C.’ I fell hard and fast for him and his cowboy hat. I was Mrs. Allen Bascom three weeks after our chance meeting.

I had stopped on the side of the road to ask directions from a cowboy on horse checking his fences. He had ridden alongside my rental car the several miles back to my missed turn while I peppered him with questions about the wild country of Wyoming as I rolled along in the car at 5 miles an hour with no desire to go faster. I couldn’t believe only 18 short, blissful months later, I was suddenly the Widow Bascom. Moreover, I was also in charge of a 2,032-acre ranch with 346 cattle, an unknown number of chickens, four dogs, five horses, and two ranch hands.

I lost myself in grief and my work. Allen had been a kind man, and I had been very fond of him. We had fit together like hand and glove from the moment we had met. He let me hunt my plants, kissed me sweetly every night, and listened to me jabber on about soil, leaves, and flowers without complaint. I had kept his house, cooked for him, and helped keep the immense isolation of rural Wyoming at bay. It hadn’t been a passionate marriage, but I missed him all the same. His presence had always been soothing and solid. His abrupt absence had been initially disconcerting, but I soon settled into my solo, silent existence.

At first, I thought it was all going to work out. Chet and his brother, Avery, had been Allen’s ranch hands for years. With the naivety born from living buried in foliage and books as a botanist with a specialty in rescuing native plants, I never dreamed that they would be anything less than trustworthy. If they hadn’t overplayed their hand, I probably never would have caught on to their scheme.
