About this ebook

Why are people willing to kill for the crashed ship?

Amanda is enjoying having time to date all the terrific guys on Ice. She's trying to figure out if she has a real love connection with any of her teammates on the Ice Search and Rescue Team. Once she's made her choice, she ends up running for her life with the guy of her dreams and another woman.

Mack had decided that Amanda is the woman for him. Unfortunately, his boss sent him to explore a crashed spaceship with the girl of his dreams and the woman of his nightmares.

Mack's sure his cold-weather skills can keep them alive, but the elements aren't their greatest threat. Will any of them get back to the resort alive?

Welcome to Ice, the flash-frozen third moon of the planet Zavaroff. Ice has been developed as a resort focused on Ice related activities—ice climbing, ice skiing, ice sled racing. The resort and village are completely enclosed for the comfort of Ice's citizens and visitors. Step through the Erdexi transport sphere and meet the people who live, work, and fall in love on Ice.

Jo Carey

Jo Carey grew up in the Midwest but her curiosity and gypsy-spirit has kept her on the move. She's lived in eight US states and spent three years living in Ireland. She has always loved creature movies, so creatures and bugs often show up in her books. Jo, a former information security compliance guru, writes fast-paced, character-driven stories in a variety of genres from medical thrillers to space operas and cozy mysteries. Her novels are filled with humor, romance, and sometimes creatures or aliens, or maybe even all of the above. She often builds her stories around a strong female lead character surrounded by plenty of hunky male heroes. Jo's been under fire on a golf course and climbed out the roof of an elevator in the Netherlands. Life hasn't been boring. Now residing in Texas, setting often plays a huge role in her stories. Jo was intrigued by the League of Planetary Systems, a world her husband, Frank, created for his science fiction books, and she now writes mysteries and other types of tales sets in that world. Jo was bitten by a cat, a fire ant, and a snake, before succumbing to the bite of the writing bug.

    Missing Love - Jo Carey

    CHAPTER ONE

Why me? Mack asked. You know I'm a team player, Leo, but this is above and beyond.

Maybe I can sweeten the deal, Murchison said. Why don't you take Amanda too. She already knows about the ship, and she's dying to see it. It'll help your cause.

My 'cause' doesn't need any help, Mack said. Anyone who walked in the room to find the two Erdexi Alpha males facing off toe-to-toe would have quietly backed away. Why can't Koltyn take her.

Koltyn has other obligations. I'd love to go myself, but I can't right now. Even if I could, I'd need a guide. I know you can keep the girls safe.

What about Trayce or Drake or Ar....

Mack, Trayce is needed at The Pit while Jayce is on Stora with Princess Jordy. Drake and Argris are back on Earth making arrangements for their move to Ice.

    I can't promise I'll bring her back.

The her under discussion was Kiry Germane, Ice's civic administrator and marketing manager. She was a shining example of all the unpleasant traits of a Tralaskan female. She didn't try to hide the fact that she felt her birthright made her superior to every other being in the League of Planetary Systems.

Although large in stature and presence, Mack Karas was a gentle giant and usually very calm, but dealing with Kiry drove him crazy. Most of the Ice staff shared his issues with the woman. There was a lot of speculation among the Ice inner circle about how long it would be before Leo fired her. Some joked of starting a pool to bet on the date when she would be kicked off Ice.

OK. Let's go talk to Amanda. If she wants to go, then I'll do it, but I want to make it as quick as possible.

Understood. Thanks, Mack. You're a brave man.

Too damn nice for my own good, Mack grumbled as he left Leo's office, stopping by Amanda's desk. He and Amanda had been dating off and on since Mack arrived on Ice with his business partner, Jewlencia Pope. Together Mack and Jewl run Traction—the ice gear shop, lead expeditions, and teach ice climbing.

Leo, wants me to take Kiry out to the spaceship. Would you like to come along?

Oh my gosh. Really? If Leo will let me, I'd love to see the ship. I can't believe Ralston found it. Isn't it amazing that we didn't even know it was there?

Whenever Mack's ready, you can go, Leo said. It won't be all fun and games though, he said seriously, putting both hands on her desk and leaning towards her. It's your job to keep him from killing Kiry or leaving her on the ice.

Yes, sir. I can do that. Kiry's a little difficult, but I'll make sure she comes back in one piece. Mack would never hurt anyone, she said, looking up at the big Erdexi lovingly.

Mack left to make the arrangements. If he'd just been taking Amanda, he would have looked forward to the trip, but with Kiry along he was sure that every minute would be painful.

    XXX

He stopped at Brew, Ice's brewed beverage bar, and picked up a tea for Jewl and an extra-large coffee for himself. When he walked into Traction, Jewl was helping some customers, so he continued through to the office and set her tea on her desk.

Mack was just hanging up his coat when Jewl walked in. Thanks for the tea. Did he get you to agree?

So, you knew about Leo's evil plan and didn't warn me. I’m your partner. You're supposed to have my back.

On the ice, yes, but Leo's my partner in life, so I have to have his back too. Sorry. I'm sure you can handle one irritating Tralaskan female.

    "Trust me, there will be
