In Escaping an Empire it was 16th Century Ottoman Turkey. Aisha felt strange when he left for the hunting trip that day. She still played it over and over in her mind. The Sultan leaned into her (his favorite wife in the entire harem) and whispered a dire message, but it was never delivered. Just as he was attempting to warn her of the grave danger he was in the trumpets were blown, signaling the beginning of the hunt. From that day on, she never saw her Sultan again.

Now, all alone, Aisha must fight for the life of her son, Ali, in a vicious battle over succession to the throne. Without the protection of her beloved Sultan, Aisha must rely on help from an elder harem woman named Şehzade, an African Eunuch named Judar and Allah, himself, to survive.
