Hearing a pounding knock at the door, I was startled awake
My dogs Mabel and Barney, who were usually so calm, started barking loudly.
‘Let me get the door, you two,’ I said, shooing them away.
Who’s knocking at this time? I thought, confused.
After taking a long nap, I’d woken up around 7pm. And I wasn’t expecting guests.
