About this ebook
The detective catching Angie’s eye was Mandy Macquire. Long brunette hair reached down her back and a set of the darkest brown eyes a person could drown in were another of her stunning attributes; not to mention her voluptuous figure that curved in all the right places. Everything about her was pleasing to the eye.
When the elevator stopped on their floor, Angie brought her thoughts back and stepped out into the hallway walking ahead of her neighbor.
Before she could unlock her door, he had made his way up behind her. She felt his warm breath touching her bare shoulder almost causing a shudder to race through her. The man definitely made her feel uneasy.
“If you reconsider getting back into the dating scene, let me know,” he said in a tone that he tried making sound seductive, but all it did was grate on Angie’s nerves.
“You’ll be the first to know.” As she glanced back at him, her black eyes met her neighbor’s blue eyes. “Be seeing you.”
She threw the words over her shoulder before entering her apartment and leaning back against the door listening for the sound of his footsteps waiting for him to leave, but she didn’t hear a thing.
She quickly turned and locked the door, attaching the night chain in place. She didn’t know that much about her neighbor and she wasn’t in the mood to find out what made him tick.
The damned man irritated her every time she ran into him in the hallway.
She was just on the verge of telling him to get a life, but always held back since she didn’t want to cause waves. She wondered what his reaction would be if she did utter the words to him.
Angie walked into the bathroom and stripped off her clothing standing under the warm spray of water in the shower. She could feel the tension leaving her body as the water caressed her from head to toe.

Chapter One
The street light flickered and dimmed casting the area into semi-darkness where Angie Fallini walked toward her apartment located in one of the residential neighborhoods located a few blocks from Bourbon Street in New Orleans.
Usually, she felt safe alone in the nighttime hours, but tonight something had changed for her as she picked up her pace heading through a rundown part of town. She couldn’t put her finger on what was causing the uneasy feeling.
A chill raced through her and she put it down to the restlessness that had been plaguing her lately. That had to be the answer.
What in the hell’s wrong with me?
her voice was barely audible with the night breeze howling along the deserted street stirring up dust and debris in its wake.
Suddenly, a black cat skittered across her path causing Angie to jump back. She felt foolish over her reaction that night; it was only a cat. She put her anxious feeling down to a case of nerves and the pressures of her job.
Since a mugger had tried attacking her the year before, Angie always felt on guard and a little unsafe walking the streets alone. Tonight, there was no getting out of traveling the familiar route because something came up that wouldn’t wait and she had to be out. The only thing she felt grateful for was finally reaching her destination.
When she reached her apartment building, she breathed a sigh of relief. Good evening, John,
she greeted the doorman holding the door open for her.
It’s a little late for you to be out alone, isn’t it?
he asked his faded blue eyes holding a curious look.
I know it is, but I had to drop by the precinct to turn in warrants I forgot to leave after my shift tonight. My car acted up a little, so I decided to walk instead.
Angie knew John would know what she was talking about since he was aware she worked as a detective in the New Orleans precinct. At the age of twenty five, she’d worked her way up and now held a detective badge instead of pounding the streets wearing blue.
Well, it isn’t safe for a young woman in the neighborhood you had to pass through to get here; especially someone that looks as stunning as you.
His gaze did a slow once over of her again showing his appreciation for her stunning looks.
Angie smiled at the doorman. Thanks’ for the compliment,
she said as she entered the foyer of the building. Passing the shiny glass door, her reflection bounced out at her.
Her long chestnut colored hair tumbled down her back gracing her shoulders with its thickness and enhancing the tanned skin coloring of her face.
