About this ebook
Single-stroke English or Single stroke English is the English alfabet simplified to single strokes. This may be shortened, for convenience of speech, to "Single English" given the abbreviation: SE.
Single-stroke English (SE) is based on a rational system of one speech sound, one letter. This greatly simplifies English spelling. No spelling rules are perfectly rational. Indeed, the SE system economises on the number of letters to its simplified alfabet.
People do not like having to learn long alfabets. And there really is no need, for the function of translating English speech to writing. About the thirty most important speech sounds or fonemes (phonemes) each need a distinct letter to be clearly translated into text. Extra letters, for more refined distinctions of speech, become pedantic,
rather than functional.
On the cover of this booklet, or summary edition, of Single-stroke English, is a nonsense sentence, consisting of virtually all the essential fonemes of English speech.
This short edition avoids information over-load, by cutting out all the clutter of supporting details, and getting down to the essentials.
Single stroke English is based on a simplified version of the letters of the alfabet. I developed a simplified English
alfabet short-hand, because I found, from long experience, that preserving a resemblance to the traditional alfabet was the only way to invent a memorable short-hand.
This is a public interest issue, that may benefit anyone and everyone.

My later years acknowledge the decisive benefit of the internet and the web in allowing me the possibility of publication, therefore giving the incentive to learn subjects to write about them. While, from my youth, I acknowledge the intellectual debt that I owed a social science degree, while coming to radically disagree, even as a student, with its out-look and aims.Whereas from middle age, I acknowledge how much I owed to the friendship of Dorothy Cowlin, largely the subject of my e-book, Dates and Dorothy. This is the second in a series of five books of my collected verse. Her letters to me, and my comments came out, in: Echoes of a Friend.....Authors have played a big part in my life.Years ago, two women independently asked me: Richard, don't you ever read anything but serious books? But Dorothy was an author who influenced me personally, as well as from the written page. And that makes all the difference.I was the author of the Democracy Science website since 1999. This combined scientific research with democratic reform. It is now mainly used as an archive. Since 2014, I have written e-books.I have only become a book author myself, on retiring age, starting at stopping time!2014, slightly modified 2022.

Single-stroke English or Single stroke English is the English alfabet simplified to single strokes. This may be shortened, for convenience of speech, to Single English
given the abbreviation: SE. In any case, SE stands for Single-stroke English.
Single-stroke English (SE) is based on a rational system of one speech sound, one letter. This greatly simplifies English spelling. No spelling rules are perfectly rational. Indeed, the SE system economises on the number of letters to its simplified alphabet.
People do not like having to learn long alfabets. And there really is no need, for the function of translating English speech to writing. Extra letters, for more refined distinctions of speech, become pedantic, rather than functional.
On the cover of this booklet, or summary edition, of Single Stroke English, is a nonsense sentence, consisting of virtually all the essential fonemes of English speech.
Its foneme content differs only in minor details from the different sentence, to be found on the cover of my forth-coming full length edition of Single Stroke English. (8Mb+).
The long edition contains much information and tips for easier learning the English language, even if one does not want to acquire my short-hand system. (Both are free, or as free as the publisher allows, because this is a public interest issue, that may benefit anyone and everyone.)
However, this short edition offers an alternative approach,
