    Jesus is condemned to death

    For what could Your children indict You?

    Lord, what guilt could be laid on the Guiltless?

    Only falsity could use Your words against You,

    Word of Life, say that God blasphemed Himself.

    Jesus, You spoke the Truth, and nothing more,

    for Your Wisdom Your accusers already stoned

    with their hearts of stone: and Truth now would be

    by liar’s tongue drawn up to hang, die a criminal death.

    O dread night that witnessed such abortion of justice!

    Justice, God’s granddaughter, was dragged with You,

    my Jesus, through the streets to Herod’s feast hall,

    where Your trial was to serve as the villain’s entertainment.

    Such lawless breaths against Your Perfect Majesty,

    You answered with silence. Such awful offenses

    against Your Perfect Dignity, You answered with serenity,

    the only serenity in that court most violent and illegal.

    Your Nation placed You before
