- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Another classic story of love and forgiveness and learning to live amidst a war, where young men go off to fight and sometimes die. Ruth Macdonald was a charming young lady, who had no lack of friends and fun. But when her eyes were suddenly opened to the tragedy of war and seeing sons go off and leave weeping mothers behind, she grew up a little and came to know a young man she once knew all over again in a brand new way. But for every noble and true person, there is always those who care nothing for others, but only look out for themselves. You will find both in this story and be angry at times, but as the characters of the story must do, you wait upon the Lord. This story is 'the search' that both Ruth and John take to find the Lord and really get to know Him and trust in Him and how that makes a huge difference in their lives. I appreciate the way this author writes and always have; she is what first started me on my love of books back when I was barely a teenager. Her stories are timeless.
