Pop fights his past and tries to put the demons to rest so he can move on. And Dom and Vice heat things up with an intensity that’s too hot to handle. As Michael makes a huge decision that affects them all.

Pop tossed the newspaper on the kitchen table, his features expressionless. It’d been months since he’d walked in on his wife in bed with Senator Nelson, replaying in his mind again as if taking place in front of him. He’d pulled his weapon in reflex, sighting it in on Nelson’s head. His wife still proceeded to bitch and denigrate him while impaled by Nelson’s limp dick. The situation had distracted him only for a split second but that was all the time the Senator needed.
A shot fired from the doorway met its mark between Nelson’s eyes. The reflection of the light cast off the pistol in his hand as it fell to the floor with a clank. Nelson’s lifeless body dropped onto Cassandria’s before he’d realized the agonizing shrill of her voice had ceased. The bullet had passed through Nelson and hit Cassandria’s face, killing them both instantly. His first reaction was relief—he’d tried for what seemed like an eternity to find a way to shut her up. Who would have thought it would have taken a bullet to get the job done?
He was half relieved, half angry he hadn’t been the one to pull the trigger that night, and it still shamed him for his focus wavering. He hadn’t seen Nelson’s hand reach under the pillow for the gun. If not for Juju’s perfect aim, he might not be standing here today. The guilt of his lack of performance plagued him.
It had been the one last piece left in their case, which had given them the information they needed to take down Vice President Kovak. The rest was all politics. Yet another mission safely and proficiently executed, and the team awaiting word on their next target point.
Mrs. Sanders nudged Pop out of the way, sitting the final platter of bacon on the table. Breakfast!
she hollered, smiling at the herd that came rushing through the dining room door. Get in there before the wolves get to it, Mitchel,
she said, handing him a plate.
He would be forever be grateful for his family, between working the ranch and the kids, Pop knew those were the only things keeping him from sinking to all new level of low. In his time at the ranch, he was learning what being in love and a real family acted like. Something he'd never had in his life. He knew he wasn't out of the woods yet, not that he was grieving the loss of a woman who never gave him an ounce of peace. It was more grieving the companionship, the part of you that enjoys having someone there so you don't have to be alone. That's what he missed. One day maybe he would find an older woman who wouldn't mind filling that void, just as he would fill for her. Battle beaten and running to the end of his career, he doubt he'd find the true kind of love his has watched form over his time with this group. But if he could find comfort with another, he could live with that. The support given to him here couldn't be matched.
Since the incident and him moving to the farm, Mrs. Sanders had taken extra care to make him feel welcome. Despite him being the eldest of the troop, she’d tucked him under her wing, going out of her way whenever the chance arose to take care of him. Pop smiled down at her and reached for the bacon, taking a couple pieces. Mrs. Sanders made a clicking sound with her tongue and took the tongs from him, heaping mounds of food on his plate.
You can’t expect to get a good day’s work in with a few scraps of bacon. Here, now eat up,
she smiled, moving on to her next target. Alaina came down the stairs with baby Logan tucked under her arm, yawning.
Morning everyone,
she said groggily.
Good morning! Come here to gramma little one and let momma get some food.
Mrs. Sanders carefully took Logan into her arms and the cooing began. Logan, less than a month old, was already spoiled to the core. He had been the biggest surprise to the family, and the biggest joy. Everyone had prepared for months to welcome a little baby girl home when the big day arrived, and little Logan had shocked them all. While Rock, Maverick, and Alaina were still at the hospital, the entire house took everything pink and frilly back to the store and exchanged it for blue and camo. Somehow, they came home with more than they’d taken back. The white delicate lace trimmed crib and matching bassinet was now an army tank bed with a missile bassinet. Alaina had giggled at their thoughtfulness and despite it all being over the top, absolutely loved it.
Such a precious little angel...
Martha said to no one in particular.
"Yeah, he preciously wanted to coo and stay awake all night long. I don’t care what we have to do to keep his little butt awake as much as possible today. I’m exhausted," Alaina said between bites.
Aww, honey, you should have woke me up,
Rock said, dropping a kiss to her cheek.
Pffft. As if that’s possible. You were snoring so loud I think they heard you in town. You and Brody were playing dueling snore banjos all night while Logan and I sang every nursery rhyme I knew, and even a few I didn’t.
