About this ebook
It was dusk before they realized time was far spent. He had to walk her home before it was late. As they approached the exit to the park, David spun Carol around unto himself and kissed her lips for the first time. CHAPTER 1
Caroline could not believe her ears when David asked her to marry him. She had lost hope of him ever asking.
It all began about four years earlier in a quiet park where Caroline loved to go and unwind whenever she felt gloomy. She had been involved in an intense argument with her dad over her choice of intended profession.
Caroline had always dreamt of being a barrister while her father, Mr. John Brown, had great plans for his only daughter to be a successful medical doctor. He was prepared to see her through any level of educational training that would give her the best qualication as a medical practitioner.
Secretly, Caroline entered for law in her university entrance examination form against her father’s wish.
Caroline!
Mr. Brown hollered as he walked into their big home situated in the heart of the city on a very quiet street. Carol rushed down the staircase wondering why her loving father was sounding so acrid.
What on earth is this?
He dropped the paper he was holding on the sofa beside which Carol stood, still bewildered over her father’s countenance.
As her eyes fell on the contents of the paper, she understood what it was all
about without one more word from her father.
I’m sorry dad, in as much as I love to obey you, I really have to pursue my dream, because this is my life and my future. I will never be truly happy doing what I do not have any passion for, and how am I supposed to succeed in life with that?
I am disappointed in you this once, baby girl, I hope I won’t have any cause to be disappointed in you a second time because it would not be funny.
He walked upstairs looking very frenzied.
Confused, Caroline hurried up to her room to pick her sunspecs and some money in her purse. She dashed off to the park, which was like a second home to her. She loved the feel of nature the park gave.
She struggled to control her tears as she walked along the road so as not to attract attention to herself for she was hurt.
As the only child of her parents, both mum and dad were very fond of her from birth and she grew up loving her father so dearly. He had always made out enough time to play with her. He would carry her on his shoulders even at the age of ten, as they went strolling most evenings, when the weather was quite inviting.
Carol could do anything to gladden her father’s heart, and whenever she saw her dad moody, she would not rest until she got him laughing again. In this case, Carol could not handle her father’s mood, as she got him into it in relation to an issue that could not be compromised.
She could not afford to jeopardize her whole future, yet she could not stand her father’s sad mood. The best she could do was to resort to the free-gift of nature to sooth away her pain and relieve her aching heart.
Caroline strolled into the park and seated herself in a quiet, lonely area, away from the laughter of the happy people playing in the park. She clasped her small face with both hands and let the tears ow as she reected on all that happened moments before back home.
Backing the crowd in the park, she was startled when a strong hand shook her shoulders, bringing her back to alertness.
I’m sorry to have startled you,
came a deep masculine voice, but I was wondering what such a pretty girl could be doing all alone in such a lovely place. I beckoned to you several times but discovered you were so deep in thoughts.
Caroline looked up to see the intruder and he realized she had been crying. He sat beside her and threw a consoling arm over her shoulder, making to pull her onto his chest, but she resisted his pull.
"Please, forgive me if I am too forward, the sight of those
