    Sapphire free us from our inner prisons and psychic suffering that can cause us to shut down emotionally. It can be an effective aid in treatments for neuroses or even psychosis. Sapphire releases depression and lightens the mood. It brings calm and focus to the mind, and restores balance within the body. Blue Sapphire is a stone of love, commitment and fidelity.

    The magnificent and holy Sapphire, in all its heavenly hues, is a stone of wisdom and royalty, of prophecy and Divine favor. It is forever associated with sacred things and considered the gem of gems, a jewel steeped in the history and lore of nearly every religion. To the ancient and medieval world, Sapphire of heavenly blue signified the height of celestial hope and faith, and was believed to bring protection, good fortune and spiritual insight. It was a symbol of power and strength, but also of kindness and wise judgment.

    Star Sapphire, especially in paler shades, is a symbol of wise and honest leadership, and a good stone for businesswomen and female entrepreneurs who wish to succeed without compromising integrity.

    Star Sapphire has the same metaphysical properties as the color of Sapphire it appears in, with an enhanced energy and intensification of those properties. The star itself represents the manifestation of Divine knowledge and Light and are a reflection of the Light of our own essence. The three lines that cross in the six-rayed star represent faith, hope and destiny, sometimes associated with three angels who offer protection to those who wear it.

    In Hebrew lore, King Solomon and Abraham both wore talismans of Sapphire, and the Law given to Moses on the Mount was said to be engraved on tablets of Sapphire. Hindus considered Sapphire as one of the great gems used in offerings in the temples for worship and to align astrological influences. In Christianity it was used in ecclesiastical rings, and was cherished by kings and nobility for its powers of .

    As a talisman, Sapphire was thought to preserve chastity, discover fraud and treachery, protect its wearer from poison, plague, fever and skin diseases, and had great power in resisting black magic and ill-wishing. It healed ailments of the eyes, increased concentration, and would lose luster if worn by an intemperate or impious person.

    Today Sapphire is still a Stone of Wisdom, a royal stone of learning, mental acuity and psychic activation, a seeker after spiritual truth. Its pure Blue Ray brings order and healing to the mind, lending strength and focus, and an ability to see beneath surface appearances to underlying truths and to utilize that knowledge. It stimulates the Throat and Third Eye Chakras, allowing one to access deeper levels of consciousness in order to gain a fuller understanding of self. Associated with the planet Saturn, Blue Sapphire embraces order, structure, and self-discipline, and is ideal for accomplishing goals and manifesting ideas into form.

    Prologue

    The tall, muscular, black haired, black eyed man, signed his name, pocketed the envelope with his exit money, then shook hands with the processing officer.

    Good luck, Lawdawg. Don’t let me see your ass back here again, got it?

    Yes sir. Thank you, officer. No fucking way would they see him back here. At least not as a resident. Bending, he picked up the carryall, stuffed with every possession he owned. Two pair of jeans, cut off sweatpants, a pair of running shoes, three t-shirts and six pair of underwear, miscellaneous sundries and one book. And one worn, ragged edged picture. Pretty sad for a thirty one year old man.

    The other officers in the hall shook the young mans hand as he walked the corridor for the last time as an inmate. He never changed his pace, he kept his head up, his eyes forward, looked neither right nor left except to acknowledge the officers. After ten years, he was almost afraid they would drag him back and tell him it was a mistake. Tell him he had one more day. Or week. Or another month.

    Stepping out into the wire enclosed walkway, he looked up towards the sky, taking in the grey clouds closing in, not quite obscuring the blue of the sky. This would be the last time he would have to see them through wire. His heart started pounding and his breath became fast and shallow as he walked on, toward the two officers at the gate. The older of the two officers held out his hand. Good luck, Law. You were one of the easy ones. If we had more like you, we wouldn’t need dicks like him. The guard nodded towards the younger officer, no smile to ease the insult.

    Thank you, Boss. The man returned the hand shake with sincere warmth. You were one of the good ones. Thank you for keeping my skinny, punk ass out of trouble.

    The guard slapped him on the back and opened the gate. Looking down, the dark haired man stared at the thick line of yellow paint delineating hope from despair.

    Go on, son. And good luck.

    He took the step and inhaled deeply, tasting freedom for the first time in ten years.

    He didn’t have to be here that long, but he’d refused parole. Once out, he didn’t want the leash that could yank him back for the slightest infraction, so he’d done his time. All his time. Now, he was free. Free to go where he wanted, free to see who he wanted and needed without worry.

    Free to find her. Take care of her, once and for all.

    But first, he had family business to take care of.

    Looking back at the guards, he heard the younger one say, I give him six months before he’s back.

    The older guard shook his head. Nope, not that one. He shouldn’t have been here in the first place. He’s going to make it. I can guarantee it.

    Stepping up into the bus that would take him away from the only home he’d known for almost a third of his life, he sat near the back door, leaning his head against the back of the seat. He felt the tears well in his eyes and for the first time in a long time, he smiled.

    * * *

    It took him another day and all the money he had to get where he needed to be. He stood looking down the drive at all the cars around the house. Well, shit, his timing still sucked. It looked like a party going on. He looked back down the road the taxi had taken to bring him here, wondering how long it would take him to walk back to a pay phone. Hell, even if he could find a payphone, he didn’t have money enough to even make a call. Picking up his carryall, he headed down the drive and up the walkway to the brightly painted red door. He could hear voices inside and looking down at himself, he brushed at his jeans and T shirt, rubbing the toes of his shoes against his jean clad legs.

    Taking a deep breath, he knocked on the door. Within a few seconds, the door opened and a tall, thin man looked at him, questioningly. May I help you, sir?

    The young man could see a good size crowd in the living room. Most of the guest, well dressed. Yes, I’d like to speak with Jake Connor, please.

    The thin man nodded, partially closing the door. He watched as the thin man walked to a woman, with snow white hair, swept up in an intricate knot at her nape. She turned and the young man was struck by her beauty. She wasn’t as old as he would have thought seeing her snow white hair, and when she started towards him, he stared, struck by her petite, but voluptuous, body and beautiful face. Smiling, her green eyes warm, she opened the door, stepping out, forcing him back a step, closing the door behind her.

    Hello. I understand you want to see Jake. May I ask…? Diana cocked her head and narrowed her eyes. I’m sorry, but do I know you? You seem very familiar to me. Diana took the young man in with one pass of her eyes.

    I’m sorry, I don’t want to interrupt the party, but I’d like to talk to Jake if he’s available.

    The woman stood before him, her eyes taking in everything from his ratty sneakers, to the worn jeans, up his well muscled body until her eyes settled on his. Her smile when it came, was blinding.

    Would you come with me please? Gently she took him by the hand and picking up the bag he’d dropped, led him around the side of the house and into the back yard. She opened the door to the outbuilding and motioned him in.

    Wait here. I’ll bring your father to you, Jacob. Then, I want you to join us. I think Lizzie will want to see you, but first, let me get Jake. She started to close the door, then turned and held out her hand. I’m Diana, by the way. Jake’s wife. The party today was for your nephew’s christening. Diana turned and started to leave when he stopped her.

    Wait! Diana, I’m sorry. Lizzie has a baby?

    Smiling proudly, Diana nodded once. Yes, Little Jake. You’ve been gone a long time, Jacob. Now, let me get your father.

    * * *

    Diana, sweetheart, we have a house full of guest. Can’t you hang on until they leave? Then I’ll let you strap me down and have your wicked way with me. Jake let his wife drag him out the slider in the back of the house towards the workout room in the back yard.

    Oh-ho, Jake, my love, I’m going to hold you to that, but for right now, I have a surprise for you. Close your eyes. Diana held her husband’s hand, dragging him across the lawn.

    Diana!?

    Now, Mister! Close your eyes!

    Well, hell, when she used that tone, Jake knew not to argue. Fine! They’re closed.

    He heard the door open and she led him inside. She rested her hands on his shoulders and pointed him towards where he knew the barbell rack was. She released his shoulders and the next thing he heard was the door closing.

    Opening his eyes, it took him a moment to focus. Then the body moved from behind the Stack Gym machine and take a few tentative steps towards him.

    Hello Papa.

    Jake looked at the tall, muscular, young man before him, looking for any trace of the nineteen year old he’d last seen. Walking to stand in front of the son he hadn’t seen in ten years, reaching out, he grabbed him, enfolding him, squeezing him, crying softly against his neck. Jacob, wrapped his arms around his father, burying his face in his shoulder, crying gently.

    Diana watched the reunion from the doorway, tears running freely down her face. Then turning, she left father and son alone to catch up.

    * * *

    An hour later, most of the guest had left. Diana had taken Little Jake from Lizzie and put him in the spare room, in the crib she and Jake had bought for him, in anticipation of him staying with them when Lizzie and Mack needed a break. Diana had asked Lizzie and Mack to have a seat at the table while she, Samantha, Richard and Maria helped clean up. Diana finally heard the slider open and close in the back and walked to the table, standing watching the two men come down the hall. Jake entered the room first and Lizzie looked at her father. But when he stepped aside, Lizzie gasped, her hand covering her mouth as she slowly stood, then ran around the table, throwing herself into young mans arms, crying. Mack rose from his chair and started after his wife. It was only Diana that stopped him cold using the soft, low, tone that he knew all to well.

    Mack!

    Mack swung his gaze to the woman he respected above all else, then swung back to the man with his arm’s around his wife. He watched his wife pull out of the big man’s arms, running her hands over his face, hair and body, laughing through her tears. He sized up the newcomer, knowing it would be tough to beat him in a fair fight. But then, Mack had never fought fair. Then he took a moment to look, really look at the younger man. With Jake standing next to him, smiling, his arm around his shoulder, Mack felt his body relax and knew without a shadow of a doubt who the young man was.

    Trey. He looked just like his father, Jake, must have thirty years ago.

    * * *

    Samantha and the submissive couple quickly and quietly picked up plates, cups and utensils, discarding those they could, washing those they couldn’t. She watched the newcomer settle into the chair next to Lizzie, who couldn’t quit touching him. He was a beautiful man. Taller than his father, his shoulders broad, his chest thick, tapering down to a narrow waist and flat stomach. His jeans hugged his slim hips, cupping the impressive bulge of his maleness, barely containing his muscular thighs. If she were interested in a man, this would be one she would definitely be aware of.

    Diana? Samantha didn’t want to interrupt the group, but didn’t want to leave without thanking Diana and saying goodbye to Lizzie and Mack.

    At the sound, Trey looked up and felt all the air leave his body. Slowly he came to his feet, his eyes never leaving her face. He knew that face. Had stared at it every day and night for the last four years. He’d dreamed of her, imagined her smell and the softness of her skin under his hands. Dreamed of when he would first sink himself into her warmth.
