It was not that Mica did not want to see his mother and his sister. What he did not want was to spend a month in a freezing, overly-large castle away from his friends. Still, when his father said it was time, he obediently packed his bag with the thickest clothes he could find, just as he did every year. The rest of his winter clothes were already in the castle, assuming he hadn’t outgrown them yet again.
Six years had passed by swiftly, almost unnoticeably. Once little Hono and his mother had settled in the North, he’d moved home with his father where they fished and swam and basked in the sun, Grandma shaking her head at their antics. And for the one month a year he spent in the City of Winter, the castle hadn’t felt as freezing as when he’d
