    PROLOGUE

    The clouds gathered menacingly in a dark, forbidding grey. The wind swirled and gusted violently as it beat the barren, stony ground. In the midst of the turmoil, a battered and beaten man struggled to stay on his feet. His long black hair lashed against his face as he gasped for breath against the driving wind. His gaunt frame was too weak to withstand the gale and he fell feebly to the ground. The force of the wind brought tears to his eyes. Forty days had passed since he had last eaten and as his last strength ebbed from his body, he sensed the darkness. An unnatural chill filled the air and the stench of death descended on the barren plain. Shrieks of mocking laughter echoed through the hills. Demonic legions filled the air with incantations and spells as the Lord of Darkness materialized in front of the fallen figure.

    Master, he hissed as he bowed mockingly,
