A buzz jangles from my scalp down through my toes, jarring every nerve ending along the way and shocking away the remnants of whatever I might have been dreaming. But that wasn't my alarm. I set my 'plant for gentle, a soothing transition that would let me keep the dream images in my head long enough to record at least some of them. My best creations, or at least the ones that let me live in the style to which I have become accustomed, always start from the last wisps of a dream.
Almost as bad, that buzz hit me so hard I'm not sure where I am. I rub my eyes open to see my sea foam green ceiling above me, art history books on the walls, and huge pane windows showing the maples of my front yard. The kind with whirlybird leaves. I'm not on the road. I'm not at Mom's. I'm home in beautiful restored Detroit. I settle back and try to recover my dream.
The buzz recurs and this time the jolt seizes my prostate like an iron clamp just behind my balls. I'm awake
