About this ebook

It was a friendship that forged their relationship. It was passion that bound them together. And tragedy that tore them apart. Yet time and distance could not destroy their yearning. A failed marriage could not quench the memories. Nothing could make either forget what they had once shared...

Boyhood friends, now mature men reunited after eighteen years apart. One had saved the other's life. Cooper Lynch is a man locked by his mer blood to the town of Raven's Cove. He cannot leave. Ever. Bound by cursed blood and by ancient duty. Ian Lynch is a man who feels rootless, now at the crossroads of his life, when fate brings him back again to Raven's Cove and the only person he'd ever desired. It was a love they had tried to deny. A love that was never meant to be. But one that changed both their worlds with a night of passion they could never forget.

Different worlds, different lives. Will this forbidden love defy the demands of fate?

Adrianna Dane

Adrianna Dane has been putting pen to paper since the age of ten. She currently resides in the state of Washington. She has a great fondness for using a fountain pen when writing her first drafts. Hobby interests are varied, including photography and traveling. The first defining love story Adrianna read back in junior high school was "Wuthering Heights" by Emily Bronte, and that set her on the road to her long-standing love affair with books of all genres. Her inspiration in writing often can be found by listening to song lyrics, from hard rock to classical, and reading poetry by such poets as Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Edgar Allen Poe, and Ranier Maria Rilke. But finding inspiration for her stories truly has no boundaries for Adrianna. In 2006, her dark fantasy GLBT story, Body Parts, won its category in the Dream Realm Awards. Adrianna has written more than 100 stories, short, novella, and novel length, delving into many facets of the human condition - contemporary, futuristic, and fantasy, and all the flavors therein and in between. In other words, wherever the story and the characters, as well as their intricate stories, take her imagination, then her pen and/or computer keyboard, are sure to follow.

    Chapter One

THEY SAY COOPER LYNCH was descended from a cursed line. All the wives of the Lynch men going back for generations died in childbirth because of the mermaid’s curse. Some say it was because Ian’s great-great grandfather was married to a mermaid and she cursed the man whom she’d once saved and who had bound her to the land. Upon her death on the rocks that were now known as Mer Point, giving birth to Ian’s great-grandfather, she had cursed them all.

Cooper’s great-grandmother had died, and then his grandmother, followed by his mother. And finally his own wife. All had borne sons to propagate the Lynch line. It had been seventeen years since Shepherd, Cooper’s son, was born—a fateful, storm-tossed night, when Myra died giving Shepherd life. Cooper hadn’t loved Myra as he should have, but he’d still felt guilty, and he’d been helpless to stop her death. And thus, as so many Lynch males before, Shep grew up motherless.

The curse had held and the generation of Lynch men, caretakers of the lighthouse at Mer Point had remained solitary and alone. Oh, there had been women, both brave and foolhardy to ignore the curse. They had all died.

Every time Cooper looked at his son, he knew the heartache that would be his as with all the Lynch heirs. But the sea had its way with every last one of them. Even the men not destined for marriage. And there was no changing it. He didn’t want to think his son would never know happiness as was the fate of their line.

If Myra hadn’t forced the marriage it never would have happened. And the line could have died out with Cooper. Myra had wanted something that hadn’t been hers. He never should have married her. They’d known each other in high school and that summer when the Melville family had come to Raven’s Cove for a vacation, everything had changed.

Myra saw something she shouldn’t have and in using it to blackmail him had sealed her fate. They’d been two
