About this ebook

Mr. Hyde is no ordinary cat.  The boy with whom he lives, and who is also his best friend, knows that Mr. Hyde is a magic cat.  And Mr. Hyde has a way of ensuring that those who do bad deeds always get their comeuppance. Mr. Hyde and the boy live in a large, old house near London, England.  The boy's parents laugh at the notion that the strange things that happen when Mr. Hyde is around could be attributed to any magical powers—such as the mysterious birthday cake mix-up at the boy's tenth birthday party. Very odd.

Decide for yourself about whether magic is involved after hearing about Mr. Hyde and his adventures. Also coming soon, Book 2: The American Adventures of Mr. Hyde.

The Nine Lives and Times of Mr. Hyde - Jonty Olivier

    INTRODUCTION

Mr. Hyde seems to be an ordinary cat just like many others. He lives with us, his human family—that’s me, Mother and Father—in a large, old house deep in the countryside, not far from London, England.

He’s a house cat who eats and sleeps (mainly sleeps, it must be said) like any normal cat and loves affection, when it suits, just like any normal cat. Nothing unusual about that, you may think.

So why is it then that strange things happen when he’s around? It’s true he looks a little different from many cats, as you will learn, but that’s just a quirky breedy thing, right? It doesn’t mean he’s got hidden secret powers or anything.

Or does it? I’m convinced that my Mr. Hyde, who is my best friend in the whole wide world, is a magic cat. Underneath all that ordinary cat behaviour is an extraordinary cat who appears to be able to make things magically happen but manages to do so in such clever ways that no one ever links him to these strange events.

No one except me, that is. Mother and Father laugh at any suggestion that Mr. Hyde might be a magic cat, blaming such thoughts on my vivid imagination.

But I know differently, so I thought by telling you a little about Mr. Hyde and some of the happenings that go on in our house, you might just make up your own mind. So here goes . . .

Welcome to the Nine Lives and Times of Mr. Hyde.

    CHAPTER ONE

    THE HIDE AND SEEK CAT

Our cat is a lovely cat. Our cat is a lovely white cat who likes to play hide and seek. It is because of this that we named him Mr. Hyde. Every day, we would search the house for him, as he would go missing at any opportunity. One day, however, he just went too far.

We searched in all the usual places, like under pieces of furniture, in and behind the curtains, in baths and showers and amongst the clothes in the closets. But he was nowhere to be found.

So, we had to start looking in places that were not the normal hiding places, places that even Mr. Hyde had never gone into before. We looked inside boxes, all through the garage, including in and under cars, even through drawers and kitchen cupboards. Still, there was no sign of him.

Mr. Hyde never ventures outside, yet we even searched the garden, the drive, and the street—but to no avail. Back inside the house, (which is pretty big, and great for playing games of hide and seek, especially if you’re a bundle of white fluffy fun like Mr. Hyde) the washing machine and tumble dryer were getting the once over, but still no sign of him.

We called him and called him and called him some more, but Mr. Hyde was quietly hiding in a new
