About this ebook

Brendan Regan, a 32 year old veterinarian, is the shy Regan brother. He had never been good with expressing himself except when it comes to animal care. After a quick look at his life he begins to pray that God would send him his one true love.

Massy Goldman was raised in an Amish community but she never felt like she fit in. Just hours before marrying the leader's son, she learns a terrible secret and climbs out of the church window. After 'borrowing' a horse she rides away until she is thrown smack in the middle of a road, where she hits her head and blacks out.

After spending hours on an emergency on the outskirts of town, Brendan is tired, hungry and wet. As he makes his way back into town he comes across what looks like a dead body in the road. It's not until he is upon her that he discovers the angel dressed in a white wedding dress. Had God answered his prayers by sending him this angel? Could she be the one to be able to break through his shy interior?

I especially want to thank God for giving me the courage to go for this adventure and for giving the wisdom to write this book.

In my new series the Regans are an Irish family and most of the nicknames I found are from a Gaelic or Irish dictionary.

One of the characters you will come across is Massy. Her name is actually Dutch and her name is pronounced Macy.

Aiden gives Charlotte the nickname Macushla. It’s pronounced Ma-shoe-la.

Aingel is the nickname Brendan gives Massy. It means Angel and is pronounced the same way.

Why had he even bothered climbing out of bed that morning? It was Friday the thirteenth, the unluckiest day of the year, and he was having the worst day of his thirty one years. Brendan Regan knew he should not believe in that bad omen crap but there was just no other reason for the bad stuff that had been thrust upon him that ungodly day.

First he had been bitten by a Rottweiler when he tried to get him untangled from a barbed wire fence and then a cat got loose in his office, causing the dogs to go crazy. He had a blowout after leaving the Walker ranch and then he got a call about a heifer being stuck in mud in the deepest part of the Chancellor Woods. Apparently she had gone into hiding after she had gone into labor.

Timothy Chancellor owned a cattle ranch on the outskirts of King’s Hill. It was one of the biggest ranches in the area and the man seemed to think his animals were more important. So when the man called about the missing heifer, Brendan dropped his lunch plans and went out to help locate the animal. He had ended up spending most of his day trying to delivery not one but two calves. Yep, you guessed it, the heifer had twins and what was worse was one had been stillborn. Timothy had pitched a fit when Brendan told him that the little one could not be saved. On top of it all it had been raining and he had skipped two meals. So now Brendan was tired, hungry and royally ticked off. Not to mention he was cold, wet and muddy. Shaking his head, he turned onto FM 2342 and headed toward town. With any luck one of his employees would have left him a meal in his office refrigerator.

Almost ten minutes down the road he had to slam on his brakes when he almost hit something in the road. He couldn’t tell if it was an animal or a large tree branch. Brendan climbed out of his Chevy Tahoe and when he drew closer he noticed it was a person.

Good Lord, are they dead? he cried out as he bent down to check for a pulse. When he turned over the body his breathe got lodged in his throat. There, lying before him was an angel dressed in a white wedding dress. Looking around, he didn’t see a car or anyone else. Where is your groom, sweet thing? He pressed his fingers to her neck and blew out a breath when he found a pulse. Hello? Can you hear me? The angel just moaned as she moved around. Brendan did a quick assessment to see if she had any injuries but all he saw was a gash on her head. Standing, he gently scooped her up and carried her to his truck. After placing her in the passenger seat he covered her with a blanket before climbing in behind the wheel. Taking a deep breath, he pulled out his phone and dialed his brother’s number.

    Hello? Conor answered.

    Where are you?

At the clinic. I just delivered the Stevenson baby.

Stay put I have another patient for you.

    Did Mr. Chancellor get hurt?

No. I’ll explain when I get there and you might want to call Dillon.

    Okay, now I’m curious.

Be there in twenty minutes. Brendan hung up and put the truck in drive. Looking only once at the angel beside him, he prayed he could get to the clinic in time to save her. Who was she and where had she come from? Where was her groom and why did she have to be so pretty?

Twenty three minutes later he pulled up outside the clinic and was greeted by Conor and Dillon.

Okay where is the patient? Conor asked. Instead of answering, Brendan went to the passenger door and opened it. He then scooped her up and started inside.

    Who is she? Dillon questioned.

    Don’t know.

Where’d she come from? Conor inquired.

    Don’t know.

Okay how did you come across her? Dillon huffed out as they all entered a small examining room.

Brendan laid her down and stepped back. I was coming from the Chancellor place and came across her. She was just lying in the middle of the road.

Was there any vehicles nearby? Dillon questioned.

No and believe me I looked. It’s like she just dropped out from the heavens.

By her attire, I’m guessing someone is looking for her. I’ll go out to the sight and have a look around. Where was it?

FM 2342 about ten minutes north of the Chancellor Woods turn off.

Why were you in the woods? Dillon demanded.

The heifer ended up hiding out there and got stuck in the mud pit.

Did she give birth? Conor asked.

    Yep, twins.

Twins? That’s rare. Right? Dillon asked.

Yeah but one of them was stillborn. Timothy pitched a fit when I told him there was nothing more I could do for the little fellow.

He’ll get over it, Dillon stated and they all turned as the angel moaned. Her eyes fluttered open as she tried to sit up.

Easy, you have a pretty nasty head wound, Conor explained.

    Where.... where am I?

King’s Hill. What’s your name, honey? Again that was Conor.

    Massy Goldman.

Well, Massy, you have my brother to thank for you being alive. Conor stated as he pointed to Brendan.

Dillon stepped forward and nodded. Ms. Goldman, I’m Dillon Regan, Police Chief here in King’s Hill. I’d like to ask you some questions if you are up for it. She only nodded as Conor got to work on cleaning her wound. When Brendan found you, he said you were alone on the road but according to your attire I’m guessing someone is missing you.

No, No one is missing me. I...I don’t know how long I’ve been traveling but I left early on...What’s today?

    Friday the thirteenth. Dillon responded.

Yeah I was supposed to get married this morning but when I caught my intended in the arms of another and laughing at me, I fled.

Where is your car? Brendan quizzed. I didn’t see one.

I don’t drive. I hopped on a horse and took off. I don’t know how long I had been riding when he threw me.

    What happened to the animal?

    I don’t know. I hit my head and that’s all I remember.

Are you from the Amish county? Dillon asked. She just nodded. Damn...I mean darn, honey that’s a good three hours from here and that’s by car. I’ll have to contact your people...

Please don’t, please. I...I can’t go back there.

Honey, if all he did was cheat on you, can’t you talk to someone? Conor gently prodded as he stepped away to wash his hands. Tears filled her beautiful blue eyes and Brendan wanted to step in to rescue her. He wanted to wipe away her tears and comfort her.

    ––––––––

Massy stared at the trio knowing if she didn’t tell them the truth she’d end up going back to the hell hole that was her life.

There is more, isn’t there? the officer challenged. Sighing, she just nodded and let the doctor help her into a sitting position.

You’ll need to rest up for the night. I’ll call my nurse and see if...

No... please I can’t have everyone knowing I am here.

What’s really going on? the officer demanded. She then bowed her head and told them everything.

Dear Lord, Dillon, she can’t go back there! her rescuer stated once she had finished her story. Look, I’ll take her back to my place for the night. I mean I have a spare room and she looks to be about the size of my vet tech.

The other two men looked at her before looking at her rescuer. Finally the police officer nodded. Alright but I am still going to have to look into this. For now this stays between us four. Ms. Goldman, as far as anyone knows, Brendan hired you to work in his clinic.

But I don’t know anything about that.

It’s only until we figure something else out, he rescuer said.

Or until I figure out this mess, the officer added.

On a cold lonely day when life seemed too hard, an angel dropped from the sky and into my world. By: Brendan Regan

    ONE

    February 14, 2000 ~ 03:49 pm

As Brendan watched his brother Aiden marry his true love he wondered if he would ever get his turn. Out of all the brothers he was the most awkward when it came to the opposite sex. His carrot-top red hair and his five foot, eight inch height had been the source of years of teasing. It had also left him dateless many times. Thankfully, he always had Sarah, who had been his best friend since kindergarten. Everyone thought they would marry and at one point he had thought it, too. However, his dear friend had other plans. Plans that only included one other male source, God. Soon she would say goodbye to King’s Hill, Wisconsin, USA and move to Greece to where God had called her. At least he still had Massy, his angel. Sighing, he looked over at her sitting alone and wished he had the guts to tell her how he felt.

When are you going to tell her how you feel? Sarah asked him.

He turned his attention to his friend and cocked his head. When are you going to tell you father about Greece and your lifestyle choice?

It’s different and you know it.

Maybe. Don’t you think he has the right to know?

    I’ll tell him.

When? When you are in Greece? She shrugged. Seriously Sarah?

He’ll throw a fit and lock me in my room. Did you know he wants me to marry Jason Haman?

    His foreman?

    Yeah.

That guy is a sleezball. He’s worse than Hayden, Garret and Frank put together.

I know but daddy does not see it that way. A man deserves to sow his oats before settling down. Daddy says once we say ‘I do’ the man will change.

Doubtful. So that’s why your daddy was glaring at me when I picked you up.

As long as I am hanging out with you, Jason does not stand a chance.

Okay, I’ll keep my mouth shut about Greece and the convent. When do you take your vows?

Next month. Then I’ll be leaving for Greece shortly after that.

How are you planning on breaking all this to your dad?

I’ll send him a letter or a post card.

He’s not going to be happy and might come after me.

Don’t worry I’ll make sure he knows that it was my decision. Maybe I’ll get the Monsignor to come talk to daddy. Brendan let out a snort and shook his head. If you are going to tell her you better do it soon. Brendan looked over as a guy approached Massy’s table. The two talked for a bit before he led her onto the dance floor and once again he was left out in the cold. Why didn’t you bring her instead of me?

Because you said you didn’t want to go alone.

I could have come alone. They are only dancing. You still have a chance. Just talk to her, Brendan.

Okay. After I drive you home I’ll go talk to her.

I can find another way home if...

No, I will drive you home and then I’ll go talk to Massy. Once again he looked over at his angel dancing in the arms of another man and sighed. Sarah was right, it was time to finally tell her how he felt.

    ––––––––

Massy sat at a table watching Misty and Dan dance. It made her happy that two of her close friends had found love. They both encouraged her to seek out her own happiness but she was not sure where she would start. Since arriving in King’s Hill there had only been one man she had felt an inkling of attraction to but he didn’t seem to be interested in her. Brendan had always treated her with the utmost
