    CHAPTER ONE

Erin sat crossed legged on the bathroom floor staring at Jason’s Christmas gift. Trepidation consumed her as she stared at the small object. How could she be scared of something so small? Only a few inches long. It was a huge commitment she was asking of him. She placed it in the box on top of the red and green tissue paper and placed the lid over it and straightened the bow. It was a simple white and gold box with a gold bow but it carried a lot of weight. Christmas was still a few weeks away but she wanted to give him his gift early. She wasn’t the greatest at surprises and this one was bound to knock his socks off. Or send him screaming for the hills.

No she couldn’t think that way. Jason would love it. She hoped. She would just present it to him just right. She may be a klutz but she was still a perfectionist at heart. She would make him his favorite meal, make sweet love and then she would give it to him. Or did she give it to him at dinner? Or before the lovemaking? Suddenly she was overwhelmed by all the planning and what to do first she felt her stomach rebel and she scrambled to the toilet and released her morning coffee. After she was done she sat back down and placed a hand over her tender stomach. She couldn’t make all these plans alone. She needed help but who could she call? There was only one choice in her mind. Lillian.

Erin crawled back to the present that had been dropped on its side in her haste to get to the toilet and she righten it. The bow was crooked and slightly bent. She straightened it back out and fluffed it back up before setting it under the sink behind her toiletries. Jason would never think to look for it there. Men seemed to get phobic around tampons and other women toiletries. It made for great hiding places. Plus he wouldn’t think about Christmas gifts yet. It was still three weeks away and most men were last minute shoppers. She would have been one too but this gift just kind of popped up at a convenient time. Erin giggled at her own joke.

Back in her bedroom she picked up her phone and called her best friend in the world, Lillian. She hated that after she finally moved to San Francisco after all of Lillian’s pestering, the woman up and moved to LA to be with Garrett, Jason’s brother. It was cool they were practically sisters now but she hated the distance between them. Lillian still split her time between LA and San Francisco so she still got to see her every few months but it just wasn’t the same. Even when they had shared an apartment together Lillian had left for LA right away and Erin spent most of
