About this ebook

The short stories found in this book are based on ideas given to me by a few people in my past, and by my own creative thoughts .
The Soldier-- Best friends, Marty and Jesse, decide to visit the old cemetery to check out a story told by the caretaker, Ol' Mr. Woodrow. Their journey finds them deep in the heart of the old graveyard. What they discover would terrify even the bravest of men.
Panicked -- Janet, a young woman whose dark journey home is made more terrifying by her drug induced brain, must face the terrors of the night. Paranoia sets in as she desperately tries to make it home. Home is good. Home is safe. Or is it?
The Nightmare Home -- Haunted by nightmares, Casey Daniel's job and lifestyle begin to suffer. In time, she finds herself drawn to the dreams. Wanting only to be in the dream. What awaits Casey is far more disturbing than anything even she could imagine
The Gift -- The boogeyman. Real or imaginary? For one young girl, he was very real. Journey with her now as she tells you her story. Don't be afraid. Just go.
The Rope -- Reminiscing can be fun, but when sight or smell takes you back in time---- it can be quite disturbing. It was that way for Steve as he walked alone thinking of his newborn son. What he saw during his walk whisked him back to the most disturbing time of his life.

Sherry Hall recently asked a friend. "Have you ever heard that song 'Amazing Grace?' That song pretty well describes me -- 'I once was lost and now am found'."Growing up in Oklahoma and Kansas, Sherry had a challenging childhood being shuttled from one parent to the other and became the proverbial rebellious teenager. Fortunately she had been schooled in Christian beliefs and found her way back to God and His amazing grace. Reading the Bible all the way through and studying it over the years, lead her to be able to answer the questions found in this book. Now as a mother and grandmother she is reaching out to those who may be searching for answers to life and to an understanding of the grace that God offers to each of us. "I believe God led me to write the “Q & A on Christianity” book because of all of my prayers and concerns over the many lost souls in this world. If this book can reach them it will mean more saved souls for God. And that is our assignment given to us by Jesus – to lead people to God."Sherry also enjoys singing, and is invited quite often to sing solos at local churches. She has made several CDs of her singing for gifts to friends and relatives.

    INTRODUCTION

The short stories found in this book are based on ideas given to me by a few people in my past, and by my own creative thoughts. They are fictitious as far as I am aware. The characters are as unreal as the boogeyman. Of course, if you happen to be a person who believes in the boogeyman.... then who knows? Maybe the characters are real. Maybe they are living their lives right now.... or once did. I, for one, will not share my opinion on what I do, or do not, believe. For there are some who would call me crazy. That is only because they do not know me. If they did, they might find me completely sane. So you will have to decide for yourself. So, please read on. I hope I can take you into the darkness, into worlds where fiction becomes reality. And reality becomes terror.

    THE SOLDIER

So, ya wanna know what really happened that night. Okay, I'll tell ya, but I hafta warn ya that the story I'm about to tell ya is so fantastic that you'll probably leave here believin' I'm as nuts as the doctor's think I am. But I'm not crazy. Really, I'm not. I suppose I'm still shook up about the whole thing, but that doesn't make me a contestant for 'Name That Looney', does it?

    What's your name again?

Keith Richards? That's a cool name. I guess ya know my name, huh? Well, just for the record, my full name is Martin... Alexander... Cook, but everybody calls me Marty, and I'm sixteen years old. Ya know, I used to hate my middle name 'til my mom tole me I was named after my great- grandfather. He never did nothin' special, but it's kinda neat bein' named after...

    What?

Oh yeah, my story. Aren'tcha gonna write all this down while I'm tal.... Oh, ya gotta tape recorder. That's cool. Before I get started, I just wanna ask one more question. Do a lotta people read the stories in those scandal sheets? That many? Wow! Okay, here goes ----

Me and Jesse Ryan was best friends, and we did just about everything together. We'd go to the park and play frisbee, or go to the movies for a double feature. Sometimes we'd go to the mall on Saturday afternoons just to check out the chicks. We'd walk around with sodas in our hands and rate the girls that walked past us.

Aw hell, that's not completely true. I did the actual ratin'. Jesse just nodded or shook 'is head once in a while. I think 'e was too grown up for that kinda stuff, but 'e went with me just the same.

Ya know how I said we was best friends? Actually, he was the only friend I had. Ya see, the other kids at school didn't like me. They thought I was weird 'cause I talked about things that made 'em nervous. Things like ghosts and stuff. I think I made 'em nervous 'cause I took that stuff seriously. To me, they wa'ant just stories to be told around the campfire. To me... they was real.

Anyway, Jesse was the only one who wa'ant freaked out by my stories. In a way, I think 'e sorta liked hearin' 'em even though 'e argued with me about 'em. He used to say things like, 'There's no way things like that can happen, Marty,' and then 'ed kinda laugh softly to 'imself. Maybe 'e thought 'e was too grown up for that stuff, too. But even some adults believe in ghosts.

We was both fifteen, but Jesse acted more like 'e was twenty, and 'e was smart, too. Not just smart in school, but smart in a lotta other ways. Ya know what I mean? Good, 'cause I don't know if I can explain it, except to say that 'e was more like a older brother. He always had a answer for everything. It was like 'e had the experience of someone who has lived for a really long time.

    Whad'cha say?

Did I worship 'im? I dunno. I never thought of it that way, but yeah, I guess I did sorta worship 'im. Why shouldn't I? He was everything I wanted to be and never could be. He was smart, strong, good looking; ya know, all the important things. Hey, check this out. I used to get this mental picture of us as those two cartoon dogs on television. Ya know, the big bull dog and the little terrier. I was the terrier, of course. I could see myself jumpin' around like that little mutt and sayin', 'Whatta ya wanna do, Jes, huh, huh? Want me to chase down a cat for ya, Jes, huh?' Shoot, ya know somethin'? I think I would've done just that if he'd asked me to. Crazy, huh?

Anyway, the whole thing started with me tellin' Jesse one of my favorite stories, about a soldier, during lunch break in the school cafeteria. As usual, he was lissenin' to the story like 'e really believed it. But, when I finished, he laughed that quiet laugh of 'is and tole me I should write my stories for publication. He said they would make great horror-fiction stories. That kinda pissed me off.

It happens to be a true story, I tole 'im.

Oh yeah? he asked me. Who did you hear it from?

    Ol' man Woodrow, I
