    Jamel scored the final shot just as the buzzer rang out. His team had just won the finals and were headed towards the championship and he couldn’t be happier. The crowd ran over to him and his teammates picked him up on their shoulders and he a huge smile spread across his face. This was what he was waiting on. This is what he had worked endlessly for for four years and it was right there in sight. Jamel and his teammates went back into the locker room and the coaches patted each one of them on the back.

    Good job out there today, said Coach Wilson, who was the head of the athletic department. He was an old white guy who kind of looked like an elf.

    Yes, especially you Jamel, said Coach Call, who was the head basketball coach and Jamel’s favorite. He always went out of his way to help him and he appreciated it.

    It was a team effort, said Jamel.

    Coach Call smiled. Always modest. Look now that we’re going to the State Championships I’m going to need you boys to work harder than you’ve ever worked before. You will have practice four times a week and maybe on the weekends. The Mighty Thunder is a strong basketball team and will not hesitate to crush you. They are unlike any team we have ever played before and I need you all to be prepared.

    Jamel and the rest of his team nodded in agreement.

    Okay, now hit the showers and Jamel when you get finished I need to see you in my office, said Coach
