PROLOGUE
Howard and his family dragged their feet as they ran through the rain within the blood-filled streets of Heath. The chorus of gunfire pulsed and echoed within the streets proximity. The wet drops of rain brushed off Howard’s hair down his forehead. A riot had broken out within the wretched pits known as the slums of Heath. Screams of fear and pain reverberate off walls. Their feet were soaked beneath the flooding water as they stood beneath a broken sign hanging from a building labeled Le Shoppette Beau
. They shivered as the howling wind blew fiercely and brushed droplets against their faces. Dark clouds covered the sky as if it was midnight. Howard tilted his head up to watch the bricks above them set ablaze. Thick smoke and ash sprinkled on them from the building’s debris floating down.
We will rest for a moment. Perhaps a taxi will pass by soon.
said Howard as he glanced down at his frightened young daughter. She wasn’t passed the age of ten with her hair in a ponytail and latched onto her twin brother Carter. A monitor turned on from the motion detectors near the alley the Williamsons were standing.
Heath is on critical lockdown. The Williamsons are nowhere to be found, and a low-income sector out of control. These are the latest news updates brought to you by Nation news.
The news anchor on the monitor was dressed in black conveying the latest in a professional manner as the Williamsons listened while huffing heavily. Aliza and her brother Carter stood together holding hands. Aliza's whole body was shaking, from the freezing air within the alley. The little girls’ foggy floating breath leaves her lips.
Your hands are shaking Aliza.
Carter said also shaking from the cold. Catherine had kneeled down to her two children both freezing from the icy raindrops, and stared into their frigid eyes.
I need the both of you to be brave for me, can you do that?
Catherine asked. The two bobbed their heads and Catherine grasped both of them giving a loving hug. She stood back up and glanced over to Howard who had Max, their oldest son, by his side also freezing.
We need to keep moving Howard.
Catherine said.
I think the rain should calm down soon.
responded Howard. He tilted his head and saw the fear in her eyes and knew that they were in a slum sector of Heath which was a pit of depression and hunger. Grim alleyways were filled with heaps of garbage and people starving killed each other for a scrap of food. Perhaps we should head down this alleyway. Stay out of sight from the madness.
Who is that mother?
Max said with his hand latched onto his father’s.
Two drenched slums came in sight past the far end of the alley worn out. One of them was a young child and the other was an adult both dressed in rags and exhausted from escaping the rampaging riot. The younger of the two stared at the older one, hungry and starving. The older slum had pulled out some soaked bread. Fireworks lit up the child's eyes, at the sight of some food. Unfortunately, the crumbs of food soaked from the rain were not enough to satisfy the older man. He heard the chatter of gunfire in the distance and thuds of a stampede approaching them. He then pushed the youth aside and the child fell to the ground falling on his bottom in a huge puddle. The slum scurried away from the approaching danger without remorse of the youth. The scared little boy lay crying beneath the pale gray sky hungry and alone. Aliza felt compelled to run and aid the child. Hey, are you okay!
screamed Aliza.
Aliza stay with us!
yelled her father. Howard rushed to stop his daughter from leaving his sight. The whole family ran down the alley after her, except for Max who stayed dry from the spot he was standing.
Are you okay?
Aliza asked the shivering little boy.
I'm hungry.
He cried.
Howard had searched in his pockets for something he could give the poor boy but nothing was there. The rain settled down and Catherine leaned over and put her hand beneath the boy’s chin and found his innocent eyes.
Who was that, child?
said Catherine with a soft tone that could calm the worst kind of criminals within this poisoned part of Heath. She noticed the boy’s arms and the creeping sense of worry flew into her thoughts when she noticed something very odd. There was a green glowing aura all up and down his forearms as she approached him, growing in brightness. She tried to grab and check the rest of his arm, but the alarmed child pulled away scared like a frightened cat. I won't hurt you, please I just want to see that arm of yours.
she said reaching out with her hand. It took a lot of courage to become so trusting as he hesitated one second then reached out his arm. After all, he was only a homeless youth and wasn't taken care of and only taken advantage of down here. The glow didn't go far past his elbows and the boy didn’t seem to be startled by its radiating light. The boy was a little bit more relaxed now unlike Catherine whose eyes began to teeter on her delusion. Her husband put his comforting hands over her back with the same skepticism.
What in the world is that?
said Howard.
What is wrong with you my child?
Catherine asked. He glanced at his forearms but doesn’t understand why she is so concerned about him. The boy is speechless because to him this is normal and he was born with this glowing aura on his forearms. He starts to worry because of the reaction they have on their faces. Catherine was caught off guard by Bii’s arms.
Where is your family?
said Catherine.
I don’t have one.
he said.
Catherine glared up towards her husband with the eyes of sorrow. He knew how strong-willed his wife was, especially in times like these. He took in a deep breath and nodded, not that he had much of a choice in the matter. Howard and his wife were known for their compassion towards these parts of Heath. He was the leader of the people of Heath but unfortunately, he had very little say when it came to the slums of Heath. Like all leaders of the world, they are only the gears in the already working machine. They had very little to say in a corrupt political machine overseen by the council. The council was a group of political advisors that streamed all of Howard’s leadership decisions, making sure they took care of themselves before anyone else. The people who live in the slums, the wretched and crime filled sectors of Heath were sucked out of their limited money and thrown aside. All the while the wealthy citizens of Heath get fat and fill their bellies with the sweat and blood of the slums.
Come now Catherine, we must get out of here before our time runs out.
said Howard with a sigh. He stretched his arm out for his wife’s hand. She wasn’t going to let this world tear itself apart while she was down here. She needed to help this starving young boy and get her family out of this sector before the maddening slums found them.
Come with us, we will get you to a safe place.
Catherine said smiling softly at the boy. The boy got himself up and wiped his tears from underneath his green eyes. He glanced up at Catherine and licked his lips from the pouring rain. He gazed on towards the end of the alleyway where he heard tons of angered people approaching. His heart warmed from someone like the Williamsons family to show a tiny piece of kindness. Aliza stared at him very curious and put her hand out.
Don't be scared, we will help you.
Aliza said. The boy wiped his hands on his pants and held her hand. Gripped as one, they went down the alley to the street. Catherine and Howard glared down and noticed that Max was not standing where they had left him.
Howard where is Max?
said Catherine worriedly.
Max!
howled Howard. He glared at the damp steaming alley and began to panic at the disappearance of their oldest child.
Mommy, where did Max go?
Carter asked. Catherine was so worried she didn’t reply to her son. She wiped the wet pouring rain off her head and stared down near an old wooden door which wouldn't shut properly. The door hanging by a couple nails and its only top hinge clinked back and forth. Catherine walked slowly up to the eerie insides of the building. A dog popped out of the door with a drupe jaw and a bone hanging out of his mouth. He ran through the puddles and down the alley, away from the Williamsons. Howard glanced out to see a taxi had stopped at the side of the road and exhausted smoke out the back into the air. He ran out with a sigh of relief and went up to the window and told the taxi to wait for a minute.
Aliza and Carter get in the taxi and out of the rain.
yelled their father in distress. All three of them crawled inside the back of the taxi and shivered as the cold left their bodies.
I'm Aliza by the way. Aliza Williamson. What’s your name?
she politely asked.
Bii, um... I don't have a last name.
No last name that’s weird.
Carter snarled. Are you sure?
I don't know.
Carter laughed at the misfortune of Bii while the three got cozy inside the back of the taxi. Aliza held Bii’s hand in a friendly manner, while he smiled at her soft embracing touch. The both of them were happy to have found a friend today.
It only took seconds before Catherine began panicking over the disappearance of her fourteen-year-old son Max. Her heart was stretched so far she couldn’t control her emotions. Her eyes wet, not because of the rain, but rather the unsettling thoughts of losing her son in this chaotic storm and bloody streets. They were not in the safest part of Heath and one of the worst slum sectors within the nation. They were far from safety and they knew if nightfall should come, their troubles would worsen. Catherine's heart still pounding turned to her husband and wrapped her arms, hugging him. Gripped as hard as a vice, she stuck her head into his shoulder and had to let loose. Tears were flooding the area not the rain as she melted into her husband’s arms. He stared to the vehicle and noticed Aliza and Carter sitting unworried within. Aliza's eyes gleamed at the thought of a new friend.
What are we going to do Howard?
Catherine cried. Her thoughts were taking an emotional form and she was overwhelmed by maddening thoughts creeping in.
He couldn't have gone far. I’ll go out and find him.
An eruption of flame and smoke engulfed an alley down the street. Piercing flames rose through a window of a home and debris flew bricks ablaze across the street. It shattered windows and set the sidewalks on fire. Howard and his sobbing wife stood staring at the destruction left behind the explosion as he steps forward towards the fire slowly. The heat from the flames so immense, it had dried his damp coat. The light from the flame threw ash and sparks at his face. MAX!
he shouts into the conflagration. Sounds of rage and hate crept through the smoky alleyway. Howard had a rush of fear down his spine as the crowd aggressively rushed past the flames and towards him and his wife. Leave her alone.
Howard yells at the crowd who rends at Catherine’s fancy attire.
Stop it!
she squeals.
What are you doing?
Howard howls.
Get them both.
A member of the mob yells to the raged crowd. The mob pulls her long brown hair and throws her against the building like a rag doll. They want blood and this day they will have it. The crowd circles around Catherine waving torches and signs of protest high above the air. The group is energized by a heated hatred. Howard ineffectively tries to push the mob away from the gruesome beat down his wife is receiving.
Please stop!
Howard cried out but gets knocked to the ground and stomped on by an old bearded man. The man then drives his shovel across the forehead of Howard knocking him unconscious. Within the circle of anger, one of the bigger men in the group now hotter than the fire near them bellows his foot on the skull of Catherine. She spits out blood all over the street side and feels her head being crushed beneath the weight of anger. The blood pours towards the street past her husband, Catherine noticed her daughter through the cracks of feet in the cab laughing. Aliza turns to also see her father through the crowd laid out on the cement. Her face quickly turned to sadness as the crowd stomped him further into the cement. More beatings came from the man who outweighs Catherine by a hundred pounds, who wasn’t tired and being energized by the roars of the crowd. She is hit faster and harder with each powerful fist. Howling, shouts, and laughter tear the street side asunder.
Aliza tried to open the car door but screamed as they are being held captive inside and can only watch. The android that is driving the cab had engaged its lockdown protocol out of nowhere.
Throw her in the fire.
a crowd member howls. Men, old and young grasp a part of Catherine and hold her above their heads as they toss her into the building of flames. Catherine's body sets ablaze and her squeal of searing pain had stroke dread in the street among the slums.
Mommy!
screamed Carter and Aliza as they had to watch their mother burn in utter agony.
Let us out you stupid droid.
Aliza screamed. The android sat in the front and does not move as it showed no mercy for the children. They were left in the taxi locked inside and were forced to watch their parents being brutally beaten by the madness.
Halt!
shouted a soldier. The military and flying drones came from all directions. They poise in defense of the Williamsons as the drones shined pod lights upon the rage-filled rioters. The crowds’ anger erupts and charges the soldiers like an army. Gunfire drives the crowd to a halting stop and blood spits out from all directions and pools the street. Men drop to their knees and fall face first onto the ground as they meet their fate.
Howard slowly gets up holding his head and witnesses the aftermath of the demise that just took place. A tear streams down his face as he glances at his daughter sobbing heavily pointing towards the fire. Howard slowly glimpses upon the immense fire and goes to a knee enraged in his own solitude. He kneeled there for a long time sobbing before anyone approached him He stared into the sun which pierced out of the dark cloud shining upon his drenched face and begs for mercy.
Sir we found your son and he brought us to you.
said a soldier. Howard glanced over to see his son Max standing with his other children and Bii. We need to get you all back to a safer sector while my team searches for your wife.
She was thrown into the fire.
Howard sobs. He tried to compose himself in front of the soldier and the rest of the military. The drones secure the area and float above the pile of dead slums.
Oh, Sir I...,
the soldier said.
You didn't know lieutenant.
Howard said as he stared to the sky and prays to anything that will listen to his plea.
Sir I highly recommend...
Howard then put his hand on the shoulder of the man and limped near the smoldering ruins of the shop. He twisted towards his children and limped away from the sight of his wife's demise. He clenched his fists in utter hatred and shook it off staggering up to the soldiers. Howard leaves all his emotions behind for his children who needed out of this sector before anything else happened. Bii stood beside the other little ones watching as this suited man approached them. Sir the little slum boy that was inside the cab when we arrived. Would you like me to return him to his sector?
asked the soldier.
Slum boy?
Howard asked. He glanced over at the cab and noticed the boy who stood beside his own children Yes. Yes, he needs to be with his family.
I'll get you escorted home then.
The soldier said waving for more men to come and escort them out.
Thank you.
Howard stares as soldiers took the boy away. Aliza watched as Bii was dragged away by the overpowering soldiers. Bii stared back at her and tried to fight to get away from the military, but the soldiers had none of it. He began to glow a bright green once more, this time it radiated his entire body. The soldiers spooked at the aura surrounding Bii stepped back and gazed at the magic their eyes witnessed. The air around them began to lift as Bii became more focused and angry.
What the hell is this shit?
the soldier said. He tried to grab Bii but immediately was tossed mid-air across the street knocking him unconscious. Only the two soldiers noticed what was happening, and Aliza who was dumbfounded. The other soldier quickly kicked the child away from his side with his hard boot. Bii is shoved to the curb from the force of the boot and cracked his skull hard on the cement curb, with his arms flailing outward. Blood emptied from his skull on the street side as Aliza scuttled over to his aid. His glowing body had begun to dim down, back to a normal state.
Leave him alone.
Aliza cried out to the soldiers. The soldiers held her against her will and let Bii suffer at the curbside. He was unconscious while bleeding out.
Calm down. He is just a slum boy.
said the one who holds Aliza and takes her away crying. Carter’s eyes light up at the uneasy display not knowing what to do. A military transport arrived from the sky falling silently to the ground letting out tons of steam. Howard and his whole family walked to the flying craft as Aliza is hauled away watching her friend unconscious on the curb, with tears in her eyes. He laid down all alone once again in his young life suffering slowly, but this time in a pile of his own blood. The Williamsons board the vehicle and are seated while Aliza is brought aboard still kicking and screaming.
Wake up Bii, wake up.
Aliza cried out. But it is too late. The vehicle lifted above the ground and the propulsion jets blew it through the sky above the tall buildings at top speed.
Hours after, Bii still laid there in his own blood. It began to rain harshly over his silent and broken body. The water washed the entire blood-soaked street away. Then a shadowy figure appeared from the alleyway. Barely dressed, wearing a beaten down poncho to cover his mouth, and draping past his knees. His eyes burned bright gray in the dark, as he came out from nowhere. He noticed the boy on the ground and limped over to him in urgency. The man turned the boy over and put his hand over the boy’s chest. He tilted pale pupils to the blackened clouds that hang low and began to murmur something. You couldn't tell what he was saying but you know it was like he had prayed for the boy. Then an unexpected swell of fear yanked his hand away. The man gazed into the boy’s closed eyes and saw something he feared. He noticed all the wet blood streaming off his skull on the curb. Bii is lucky to be alive. Resuen had picked the boy up over his shoulders and struggled to lift him out of the rain into safety.

DESTINY
17 years later...
Chapter I
Bii’s lungs were ready to collapse as he sprinted through the thick pines, brushing branches past his face, racing back to his cabin within the lush forest. Bii’s hair floated in the wind as he rushed down the steep cliff side of the mountain, in his soaked white shirt and spring jacket. His best friend Sinq, who had a bigger chest than him, was right beside him gasping for more air trying to outrun his friend. His baggy brown muscle shirt waved in the wind as he quickened his pace. They’re not racing each other for fun; they heard a screech of fear coming down the hilltop.
At the time, Bii and Sinq were atop a cliff doing their Kao pa meditation overlooking the beautiful peace that is captivated sitting up over Lake Grenage. Kao pa was an ancient art that few practiced around these parts of the world, where one could find inner peace. Mostly used for defending one’s self from the troubles of the world.
Bii was breathing harshly as he hopped over the snapped tree stump that was being gnawed on by forest animals. Frightened, they scurried away from the men’s rapid movement. Sinq went around the massive stump within the grassy ferns that surrounded its area. Another screech is heard as Bii’s pace quickens entering the backyard of his cabin. The hill provided the speed he needed to get back quick enough as he glimpses around and noticing the tail end of the Saber jaw wreaking havoc on the porch of his front side cabin. The screams of a woman came from inside the cabin as Sinq dove for the rooftop to get a safer view at the beast. His hands were clenched to the shingles lifting his muscular biceps over, finding him a better grip to bring him up.
We’re coming Samantha.
Bii shouts. Bii slid back into the forest beside his cabin and got a better view figuring out how big this beast really was. His pace slow, making sure he doesn’t startle the Saber jaw, making it aware of his presence. His feet jumped back into the forest as he stares at its magnitude and drops his jaw in the sight of this beast. This monster’s black mane around its neck towered over the first floor of Bii’s cabin. He couldn’t comprehend how huge this thing was. No wonder it’s been a terror on the local village of Locli. The hunt for the monster has been going on for the last two weeks from local villagers but nothing has come of it. Bii stares at the Saber jaws sharp teeth and its bloody tusks as it tears around at his porch side. It digs up and shifts out the dirt from underneath his decking, dusting up the area. He glances up to see Sinq watching it tear up the panels from their home, and he wasn’t impressed. He heads back to the other side of the cabin roof where Bii can’t see him anymore.
Inside the comfortable cabin, Samantha is hiding terrified in her bathroom. Black massacre leaks from her eyelids as she shakes in fear from the monster outside her home.
Sam where are you?
Sinq says climbing inside the kitchen area window. He makes it through and crashes head first onto the wooden planked floor. Ouch
He rubs his head from the pain. Samantha comes rushing out of the bathroom grasping onto her brother’s side knowing he is all right.
Holy frick Sinq, where have you guys been?
She cries. The beast is still tearing up the front porch with its powerful paws.
Damn thing is crazy huge.
Where’s Bii, Sinq?
She cries.
That crazy white boy is out there looking at it.
No, I’m right here.
Bii says coming through the same window as Sinq did. It was easy for Bii to do it because of his frail body as he jumps right in without breaking a sweat.
What in the hell are we going to do?
Sinq asks his friend hoping he has the answer they need to deal with their chaotic situation.
Bii shakes his head. I don’t think I can bring it down.
Yea, the damn thing is enormous.
Sinq says.
But we have no choice. I might be able to slow it down.
Maybe I get on top of the roof and drive a stake through its skull.
Sinq says gesturing with his hands in front of his sister trying to show her what he means.
Poor kitty.
She pouts, dropping her bottom lip, feeling sympathy for the Saber jaw.
It’s worth a shot.
Sinq says more so for Bii to answer this time.
Okay, Sam go hide in the bathroom again.
Bii says as he walks back up to the kitchen window jumping through it with ease. Sinq follows him but has a hard time again trying to get his muscular figure past its small space. Samantha rushes back to the bathroom slamming the door shut behind her.
Bii steps over to his back shed and opens the doors searching for his shovel. The dark space makes it hard for him to find what he is searching for. He reaches above him to see the sharpened steel blade and reaches for it bringing it down.
Bii, you hear it?
Sinq asks. Bii comes out from the shed and glances around at the cabin. The sound of thunderous paws to dirt hits his ears, with a rushing sense of disaster lurking in the air. The beast tramples the grass diving at the men standing in front of the shed. Bii and Sinq quickly dive out of the way before the bloody tongued monster can get a new lunch. The Saber jaw crushes into the brown aging shed and demolishes its existence. It becomes dazed spinning in its rubble trying to find its prey. The shovel now lies beneath splitters of two by four and dust. Sinq gets up and watches the monster have his dead red eyes on his next meal.
Bii get the hell out of here.
Sinq shouts as he rushes to the roof of the cabin trying to escape the clutches of the Saber jaw. Bii comes too and realizes that the beast is on the prowl once more. He quickly jumps up to his feet and throws out his palmed hands aimed at the unstoppable beast. The air near the forest behind him picks up wind. The branches begin to scrape against one another and release its pine cones. They drop to the ground and spin, twirling around Bii who begins to have a faint green aura radiating his body. His muscles flex with his forearms pulsating veins. Bii’s complete focus is now on to the beast trying to make an effort to stop the creature from hurting his friend. Sinq makes it to the top of his cabin while the beast catches wind of what Bii is doing. He stops and exhales out his black nostrils tilting his heavy snout to glare at Bii. Its red eyes don’t like what they see so it spins and shoots aggressively towards Bii’s stance.
Ahhh!
he shouts releasing an invisible force of energy that hits the monster’s skull. The movement of the Saber jaw began to tremble as it slowly stampeded forward with all its might.
Keep it up Bii.
Sinq shouts atop of the cabin cheering on his friend focusing all his willpower on the drooling hungry monster. Bii continues to use his special power to control energy at keeping the beast away from him for the time being. His strength is weakening quickly though and his friend on the roof notices this.
Sinq fixates his eyes on where the shovel got to. He finds it beneath the rubble that the beast caused when he smashed its head into it. He jumps off the roof and heads over to the wreckage and grabs its wooden handle. He can feel the stomps the monster’s massive paws make when they hit the ground trying to force its way to Bii. The beast’s four legs push forward to his fresh meal.
Bii can barely hold on as he needs to let go of his energy barrier for one moment, and just as he does the beast leaves the ground, jumping for him. The Saber jaw is now airborne ready to dive on Bii, but Sinq comes diving in and pushes him out of the way. The beast falls on the empty ground as Bii collects his thoughts and once again slows the beast down using his power. The Saber jaw gets impatient and roars out loud spitting mucus from its open mouth. The saliva hits the ground in front of the men showcasing its last victim’s blood within the juices. Sinq disgusted walks up trying to pick the shovel back up. His eyes catch the beasts, now feeling sympathy and compassion for it. He doesn’t want to end its life.
Sinq come on.
Bii shouts to his friend hoping he will get to rest. The might of the beast’s paw smacks Sinq away shoving him across the backyard hitting his head against the trees within the forest. The beast treks closer to Bii whose hands fall to his knees trying to compose himself. The Saber jaw picks up its paws rapidly hunting for the man. Just as the saber jaw draws closely in, Bii swiftly moves out of the way and dives for his life. The saber jaw jumps in the air and Bii then uses his power in the last ditch effort forcing the hungry beast’s airborne velocity against itself to further shove it into a massive pine stump. The saber jaw hits snout first with such power that its neck breaks. The beast sprawls out lying dead with its furry belly compressed down showing it has taken it’s final breath of air. Bii finally getting a break goes back to his knees and tries to compose his mind from all the draining energy. He stares at the knocked out beast hoping it will stay down.
Sinq are you all right?
Bii shouts over to his aching in pain friend. Bii glances in his direction hoping his friend was going to answer but now paces his footsteps over to where Sinq lies down. Sinq slowly puts up big thumbs up for Bii to see. He stops in his tracks and shakes his head for his friend’s spirited personality.
We did it. It’s dead.
Bii continues trying to catch his breath from the excursion. Samantha comes rushing out to aid her brother in her flip-flops. He digs his way out of the dirt and grass trying to rub his wounded arm from the blood. She helps her brother up to his feet and hangs his sore arm over her shoulders dragging him back into the cabin. Bii watches them head back inside and follows them limping his way back into the comfort of his home.
Samantha opens the creaky door from the front of the cabin and Sinq steps over to the couch and face plants onto it.
Sinq don’t get blood everywhere. Get up.
Samantha says. Sinq then gets back up and shifts his sweaty hair behind his head. His dark black, medium length hair slicks back easy enough for him to now see where he is going. Samantha grabs a cloth and soaks it underneath the rushing tapped water. Sinq feels the cold wet cloth on his gushing wound. Samantha forces her brother to keep the pressure on it while she makes sure Bii is coming back inside so she may tend to his wounds as well.
Bii get your butt back inside.
Samantha shouts.
I’m fine. How’s Sinq doing though?
Bii asks walking up the ripped away porch. Samantha twists feeling assured that everything is going to go back to normal finally.
Oh, just a flesh wound.
Samantha says relieved.
That thing was huge.
Sinq says. Bii smiles as he goes to sit down on the couch and take a nicely needed break.
I broke its neck.
It defiantly died right away. At least it was humane.
Sinq says to his sister trying to make her feel better that it didn’t get brutally tortured before it died. He keeps the pressure on his wound and walks over to the couch to sit down and catch his breath.
That viscous fricking thing was gnawing at the front porch for about an hour.
Samantha
