Introducing my crazy friends
You beat me here,
I call over to my best mates and smile.
I lock my car and go over to where they’re sat on a bench putting on sun cream. Naomi and Linda have been my best friends for years. They’re both crazy and hilarious and we usually spend the whole time joking around and laughing. Any hang out with them is fun as long as we’re together.
You know Linda, she speeds,
replies Naomi. "We were driving along and I yelled look out and she swerved and just missed hitting a chicken."
I laugh and look confused, why was there a chicken in the road?
We live no-where near a farm so that seemed like a mystery.
No idea,
says Linda. It was random.
Are Zoe and Helen not here yet?
I ask.
They’re on their way,
answers Naomi. They should be here soon.
Last night we had all decided that we’re going to have the most awesome summer ever before we head off to university. It’ll be sad when we leave each other to go to different campuses, but we’re determined to spend as much time together as we can before then and go on lots of fun trips.
Our first trip of the summer is to hang out at the seaside. I feel excited because I love being near the beach.
We wait half an hour for our other two friends to arrive. We sometimes hang out with them, but we’re not mega close the way I am with Naomi and Linda. They’re not funny like them unless they do something thick which makes us laugh.
As we wait we talk about funny stuff we remember that Zoe and Helen have done. Once Helen had a problem with her Sky TV boxset and rang them up to say it wasn’t working. She had to go through a long automatic message of press this number for this and eventually, after listening to on-hold music for thirty minutes, she finally got through to them. The Sky employee told her to try unplugging it then plugging it back in again. Well she did and then went back to the phone and was confused to hear the line was dead.
It turns out that Helen had unplugged the telephone connection chord (she’s using a very old phone because her portable one broke). I’ve no idea how she got a telephone chord and a TV box plug mixed up, but she did. She got really frustrated and had to go through the whole phoning up process again, which took another forty five minutes. Funnily enough she got through to the same person, who must have guessed what had happened and thought she was an idiot.
Zoe is even thicker than her. Whenever I go to pick her up, I have to make sure she gets in the right car. Once she saw another black car that was ready to drive off and tried to open their back door, thinking it was my car. I know it was the same colour as mine but it’s not as if it was the same model or brand of car. I’ve no idea how she can miss my car anyway. It has a glittery star on the ariel, colourful butterfly stickers on the front and sides and ‘powered by fairy dust’ text on the back. So if you have a black car and a clueless stranger suddenly gets inside it, that’s my friend Zoe.
Finally we see them arrive and wave. Helen has brought her dog Spot, who is pulling excitedly on the lead. They join us and we all go to a café for lunch before our beach walk. There isn’t a table big enough for all of us, so Linda and I end up on a table for two. We both decide to order burger and chips, and when it arrives I get the shock of my life.
This burger’s so huge it would last me a week,
I exclaim, having to hold it with both hands. It’s so huge it’s nearly bigger than my head!
Linda’s is even bigger, because she has onions and lettuce on hers. She can barely hold it even with two hands.
We start eating them and I look up to admire a weird mirror hanging up next to our table. Suddenly I see a person’s face looking back at me through it and jump a little. It’s definitely not my own reflection because it’s a man. My eyes go wide.
Whoa! There’s someone looking through the mirror!
The guy behind the mirror must realise I’m onto him and quickly disappears.
What are you talking about? It’s a mirror,
Linda says confused.
It must be one of those windows that look like a mirror,
I say.
No it’s not,
Linda says unsurely and tries to investigate it. I can’t see through it.
It is,
I insist. I saw this guy looking through it from the other side. I bet he thought we were lesbians and perved on us.
After trying to eat our meal, we finally have to give up on the massive burgers. I eat most of mine and a few chips. Linda eats all of her chips but only has some of her burger. When we leave the table to go and pay, Linda has a good look through the mirror and her eyes go wide.
You were right! I can see into the kitchen!
she exclaims.
I told you there was a guy perving on us,
I say triumphantly.
We return to Naomi, Zoe and Helen
