Chapter One

Angela couldn’t remember the last time she and Al had made love. He’d always been reticent where sex was concerned, but surely this wasn’t how it was supposed to be.

When they were dating, Al had been like a breath of fresh air. She’d thought his self-control was amazing. Not like the couple of other guys she’d dated before who’d been raring to go almost from the start, always pushing their luck to its limit. Their fumbled attempts at a grope in the car when they’d taken her home at the end of the night had made her stomach turn; the ‘accidental’ brushing against her breasts; a hand pushing her skirt higher up her thigh, their erections already straining against their chinos. But Al had been different, gentler, more caring, never even trying to get to first base. And she’d admired him all the more when he’d declared that he wanted their first time to be special and that he’d like to wait until after she’d become his wife. What a gentleman.

But the passion Angela had thought he’d been bottling up was never released. Sure, they’d had sex, it would have been weird if they hadn’t, but it had always been perfunctory. Angela got the feeling he was doing it out of a sense of duty rather than any actual desire. Not that Al seemed unhappy about it in any way. In fact he seemed completely content. Well maybe that was the problem. Al was satisfied with all aspects of their life, but Angela certainly was not.

She rolled over onto her stomach, pulling the sheet back over her. In the hope of enticing Al back into bed that morning, she’d purposely exposed her nakedness while he was getting ready, letting the cool October air tighten her skin and stiffen her nipples. She knew her body was in relatively good shape (as it damn well ought to be considering all the gym/tennis/swimming activities she did like the good little corporate wife she was) so what was his problem? He was going away for almost a month, for God’s sake, you’d think he’d want some intimacy with his wife before he went.
