Chapter 1: Getting Started
Thank you so much for purchasing this eBook. I am assuming that since you are reading this, you are in the educational sector as a teacher or administrator. Perhaps you have been playing around with the idea of supplementing your district’s budget somehow? Maybe you need to find money for your classroom to assist in paying for a new computer or maybe even a field trip?
You are in the right place! In these next few chapters, I am going to show you tried and true ways on how to find money for your school and/or classroom. This advice can pertain to public schools, charter schools, private schools, and even homeschooling co-ops ( if you are an actual nonprofit organization.)
First, let me introduce myself. My name is Sarah Childers and I currently earn my living as a grant/technical writer for various school districts and other entities. I am also a nonprofit consultant and a teacher.
To date, I have procured close to a million dollars from the private sector for various entities and I have created and built 3 Education Foundations from scratch.
If you have any questions pertaining to anything I am talking about in this eBook, by all means, please email me at barephilanthropy@gmail.com and I will do my best to answer them.
I am going to walk you through the necessary steps you need to do in order to start your process of finding extra funds, and then I will explain how to obtain different types of funding. I am also going to give you some behind the scenes, best practices,
or what have you, along with how I have made mistakes along the way, so you are sure not to repeat them.
So let’s get started, shall we?
First, You Need To Prioritize....
I know when you are in the trenches of trying to make an impact in the classroom, you could probably rattle off 100 things in 10 seconds that pertain to what you feel is a need. However, it is very easy to get sidetracked with the sheer amount of what is needed. Before you know it, you are running around trying to fill every need, exhausting yourself, and not really getting much done in
