About this ebook

Melissa Blue
Melissa Blue’s writing career started on a typewriter one month after her son was born. This would have been an idyllic situation for a writer if it had been 1985, not 2004. She penned that first contemporary romance, upgraded to a computer and hasn’t looked back since. Outside of writing, Blue works as a mail clerk for the federal government, has a paralegal certificate (that she has more use for as a dust pan) and is a mother of two rambunctious children. She lives in California where the wine is good and, despite popular belief, is not always sunny.

There was something about a man in a suit and tie. There was something even better about a man only wearing a tie. Even when he was pissed beyond belief. Nicole Harrison untangled her limbs from Sebastian’s and fell onto his bed. The firm mattress barely bounced. His raven strands, mussed from her fingers, brushed his high cheekbones as he glared at the ringing telephone on his nightstand .
I’m going to kill whoever the hell that is.
He closed his eyes and the stark expression sharpened his features.
The curtains fluttered on a soft breeze, bringing in the fragrance of San Francisco. The pungent bay mingled with the musky scent of sex. Night had barely slipped into the morning and the dim light only made the dusky flush to his face more attractive. She fisted her hand on the blue-striped tie.
Lust pooled in her stomach again but she kept her voice steady. Answer the damn phone.
The focus of his gaze intensified. She propped her feet up on the bare mattress and sucked in a breath only to blow it out slowly within the next second. They’d had a day off from fixing their clients’ careers. No surprise that at some point the down comforter and dark gray sheets had been swept to the floor.
Her smile broadened. She was more than ready for what happened next, but his phone rang again, shattering the tense moment. He groaned before leaning forward to rest his forehead on hers.
Nicole started to rise and answer for him, but his fingers gripped her waist. Heat flashed over her skin. He further made his point with a slow, sizzling kiss. She lost their silent argument by default when she moaned. The phone went silent.
The past six months had meant doing the dirty work of letting folks know they were partners at Limelight PR firm. They couldn’t fall off the earth for days at a time, but they had stolen time to do just this. Or eat, watch a movie…date. It had been the most stressful and best six months of her life.
This would be just another moment they stole.
His phone shrilled again. All six feet plus of him, muscle and limbs, grew taut. She grabbed a fistful of his tousled hair. Just answer it.
His jaw clenched, but a single word spilled from his lips: Fuck.
He reached over to the nightstand, not fully escaping the space between her legs. Clark,
he barked into the phone. He looked down at her, a hint of steel in his blue-eyed gaze. Jeremiah, how nice to hear from you.
She covered her mouth to muffle the laugh. Those two had a love/despise relationship. Most of the despise on Sebastian’s part because the other man had a crush on her. Her lover would take the call as a personal affront that the man had interrupted one of their sessions.
His chin tilted up, along with his brows. Where are you?
He made a noncommittal noise and tapped her leg, already on the move. Vegas. What are you doing there?
Nicole mouthed conference
to remind him but then Sebastian stilled on the edge of the bed. You want me to what?
He met her gaze and the warm, fuzzy feeling she harbored died on the spot. Your best man, huh.
She stumbled out of the bed. No more words needed to be exchanged. One of their clients had lost his goddamn mind and that meant an intervention. Sebastian kept talking to him while she jerked open the dresser. She’d taken over half his closet at some point and had to put a good portion of his dress shirts into the oak dresser. She grabbed the first one on the top. They probably wouldn’t have time for a shower because she’d have to call to make flight plans to Las Vegas ASAP.
Nicole sighed. This was their life. For a moment she let that give her pause. No question they were lovers, but they worked together. Some weekends, they lived together. Their lives had entangled and started to merge. Would she consider him a boyfriend?
Slamming the drawer closed, she started to shake her head. She didn’t have time for this kind of mental discussion. Jeremiah was going to need a serious sit-down, but first she had to find out how much damage control they needed to do beforehand.
Nicole turned to toss some clothes at Sebastian but he’d ended the call. He plopped down on the edge of the bed, not looking up. His black-and-white comforter pooled around his feet.
Her stomach dropped. How bad?
He blew out a breath and ripped the tie off his neck. So, Jeremiah is there for a conference.
Yeah. We sent him.
Sebastian’s laugh didn’t hold any amusement. It’s Vegas. So Jeremiah and a couple of other tekkies hit the Strip. They ended up at a show.
Dammit. As in strippers or showgirls?
Showgirls.
She made a strangled noise and sat down beside him on the bed. Please don’t tell me this has a predictable ending.
The exact ending,
Sebastian confirmed. He’s in love. Drunk, from the sounds of it. They want to get married in three days. Her friend’s doing most of the wedding planning for her.
Nicole opened and closed her mouth. She tried again, finally managing to ask, How in the hell are we going to get him out of this?
He reached out for her, pulled her into
