LIGHTBULB MOMENTS

50 Aha! Moments That Will Transform Your Life

They say life is a series of moments but it is also more than that. It is a gift and an opportunity for growth, an amalgamation of challenges and choices and a chance to learn valuable lessons on this journey through life.

These defining “Aha!” insights or “lightbulb moments” fill us with sudden inspiration, revelation or recognition. One by one these lightbulbs switch on, giving us more and more clarity and understanding in our life.

Some of these insights include:

•    One day I’m going to die
•    Children don’t stay young forever
•    You can’t expect to be healthy if you treat your body like crap
•    Life is too short to keep crappy friends
•    Perfect family? There’s no such thing!
•    Life is too short to stay in a job that sucks
•    Dreams don’t just fall into your lap
•    It’s better to do something and regret it than regret not doing it
•    Sometimes we are our own worst enemy
•    Holding onto anger hurts you more than the other person
•    Your gut instinct is usually right
•    Life is not always fair
•    Fear is a one-sided fence
•    Most things you worry about never eventuate
•    You will never be popular with everyone
•    Everyone is fighting their own battles
•    If it seems too good to be true it probably is
•    Just because you are busy doesn’t mean you are productive
•    Enjoy the journey because that’s all there is
•    The world is a reflection of your thoughts
•    The world doesn’t owe you anything
•    If you don’t love yourself, how can you expect others to?
•    You can’t escape your conscience
•    Sometimes it’s best to keep your mouth shut
•    Mistakes are just lessons

This book highlights in detail 50 lightbulb moments that have the potential to transform your life. Because once you have seen the light, it is impossible to go back and live in the darkness.  Once the world is bright and clear you cannot act as if you are a blind man who still cannot see.  .

Our lives are made up of a series of moments.

If you’re lucky, you’ll get to have hundreds, even thousands of them.

There will be small moments. Moments when you’re doing something so mundane you won’t realise you’re in a moment.

There will also be big moments. Life changing ones. Those ones will be in your memory for an awfully long time.

Keep them all safe. This is a moment.

    INTRODUCTION

They say life is a series of moments but it is also more than that. It is a gift and an opportunity for growth, an amalgamation of challenges and choices and a chance to learn valuable lessons along this journey through life. These defining Aha! insights that fill us with sudden inspiration, revelation or recognition are called lightbulb moments. One by one these lightbulbs switch on, giving us more and more clarity and understanding in our life.

Awareness is a paradox because the more you know, the more you have to consider. Sometimes this mindfulness sits heavy like a burden on our shoulders. Because that’s the thing: once you are aware of something you cannot become UNAWARE about it. You cannot pretend you don’t know a truth, a lie, a fact or pretence. They say ignorance is bliss and in some ways this is true. Yet as Aldous Huxley so wisely said facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored.

This book details 50 lightbulb moments that have the potential to change your life. Because once you have seen the light it is impossible to go back and live in the darkness.  Once the world is bright and clear you cannot act as if you are a blind man who still cannot see. It is our job to embrace each lightbulb moment as it comes and allow it to light up our life from this day forward.

    LIGHTBULB MOMENT #1

ONE DAY I’M GOING TO DIE

Too many of us spend our days as if we have a million more up our sleeve. We stay in jobs we hate because we think we can find another one when we are motivated enough to make the change. We hold onto grudges and keep the fire of feuds alight because we think we have time to make amends.

Or maybe we think making amends isn’t even that important anymore. We are rude and short with loved ones because we think we can always say sorry tomorrow. We think we have time. And that’s the problem. We think we have time.

Then one day the realization hits you. You won’t live forever. Maybe this lightbulb moment sparks up when you are a little older and you start seeing your favourite grownups from your childhood being put to rest.

You attend their funerals with a heavy heart and witness their weeping family and friends with a feeling of sinking dread. And that’s when you realise it: this picture is in your future. One day, someday, you too will die.

All those things you dreamed about…the wonderful job, the bucket list filled with unfulfilled adventures, the chance to reconcile and resolve past grievances? Here’s the deal…those things are never going to happen, UNLESS YOU TAKE THE EFFORT TO MAKE THEM HAPPEN.

Whether you like it or not right now your days are numbered. You don’t even know what that number is…you may live a hundred or two thousand more days, or if you are really unlucky your D-Day could arrive tomorrow, in the next hour or minute.

Think this can’t possibly be true? Then think again. Stranger things have happened. Today there will be at least a dozen people who rush out the door in a daze, forget to properly say goodbye or kiss their children before they leave, only to meet their fate with a drunk driver or careless motorist, freak accident or fatal medical emergency.

One day you will die. This is a fact. No-one, absolutely no-one in this world, lives forever.

Not all the money in the world can buy you immortality because you are a human with blood running through your delicate veins. As strong as your body seems it is also fragile. Life is fragile and time is precious. Everything can end in a single moment.

The lightbulb moment is meant to make you treasure the gift of life. Be grateful
