About this ebook
Emilie Adler, a gifted Hungarian athlete, one of only a handful of Jews who refused to boycott the infamous 1936 Nazi Olympics, wins bronze for Hungary. Eight years later, during the German invasion of Hungary, Adolph Eichmann arrives in Budapest and Emilie is caught up in the Holocaust. Working with Raoul Wallenberg, Sweden's special envoy to Hungary, she survives the war years and continues to live in Hungary. But the 1956 Hungarian Revolt is the last straw for Emilie. Determined to escape from a country once again in turmoil, she and her husband immigrate to America's Pennsylvania Dutch Country. Far from Europe's past convulsions, she is confronted with one of the last great mysteries of World War II - an amazing and riveting "Case of Identity!"

I have a special interest in history and historical fiction. Although "Emilie Adler" is a work of fiction, it is based on historical events. The characters and incidents have been composited, invented and fictionalized, but when I put words into the mouths of historical characters like Raoul Wallenberg or Adolph Eichmann, I have tried very hard to ensure that those words reflect what we know about them. To date, this is my only novel. It was written over a period of many years while I worked as a middle manager at a hospital and nursing home. The topic has always obsessed me. I was relieved when the book was finally finished. I then spent months submitting queries to agents, etc. until it dawned upon me that no one would publish this book in the United States because there is minimal interest in the Holocaust. The book might do better in Sweden, or Germany or even Hungary. What do I know? I have never gotten any feedback from anyone who might have read it. If that inspires someone to write a review, go to it!
