THE FALLEN LEAF

He stared down at the leaf sitting on the palm of his hand. Its faded, yet beautiful colors depicting that autumn is among them; brought tears to his eyes.

This all seems too familiar, he thought to himself as he leaned against the strong frame of the tree. Same tree, same colored leafs, same outcome and yet I feel different, he said softly under his breath.

Ben was remembering what happened at that exact same spot, 5 years earlier.

It was in the middle of autumn. Ben was waiting by this oak tree, top of a small mountain nearby his home town. He was waiting for his good friend, Ally. They promised to meet there one last time before they left to go their separate ways, different universities and all.

Now let’s rewind back a little bit further.

Ben and Ally go way back. While Ally was born and raised in the town of SJ, Ben and his family only moved there when he was 5. His family moved into a house just a few meters away from Ally’s and because they were only a year apart in age (Ally was 4 when Ben and his family moved into town), they became close almost instantly.

Ally was a cheerful and friendly little girl. She was always smiling and could get along with everyone. She grew up into a beautiful young lady and became the town’s most eligible bachelorette. Ben on the other hand was always getting into trouble and loved to play sports but his parents made sure he stayed grounded and he grew up to be one of the town’s best sportsman. Because of that, the town’s people always said that they would end up together as a couple. But Ben and Ally hardly paid attention to that. Growing up together, all they really cared about was being able to play together and have fun together. Their closeness never once crossed their minds as being something more serious than just a wonderful friendship. Or at least it never did on Ally’s mind.
