Feeling Froggy: F'd Up Fairy Tales
()
About this ebook
Cursed. Chased. Challenged.
Once upon a time there lived a kind, noble, and honorable fae prince. This story isn't about that male.
Instead, our tale is about Kellen, heir to the dark throne. He lived as if the entire Darklands was his oyster, and he sought the rarest most perfect pearl. When it came to war and women, he left none unscathed. His desire to not wed was known through his kingdom and all the fae lands. To reinforce the edict, he never slept with the same woman more than once. The one time he broke the rule changed his life and face forever.
Unless a woman grew to care for Kellen—in the next seven days—he would remain a monster. After a millennium in the shadows has nearly ruined him, all that is left to do is renounce his throne and make peace with his wasted life.
Bethany Taylor, a half-breed werewolf, is tired of running. On her last night in yet another small town, instead of minding her business, she becomes ensnared in an elaborate trap. When a hooded fae male steps in, he'll only fight at her side for an unnamed promise. Saying yes is a no-brainer, compared to a lifetime with her sadistic father.
She hopes she doesn't live to regret it.

Prologue
Once upon a time , a handsome Fae prince lived in the Darklands, destined to rule after his father's five millennium reign ended. Prince Kellen devoted his life to the art of war, the intricacies of diplomacy, and the pleasures of scholarship.
Unfortunately for the women of his kingdom, his interpretation of a happy ever after included multiple orgasms and a single nightfall in his arms. Everyone in realms far and away knew of his disdain for romantic attachments. Kellen offered no promises, but ensured they both left satiated.
Clear intentions, however, do not equal unintended circumstances. One powerful lover, filled with black magic, big dreams, and a broken heart wanted Kellen's suffering to rival her own.
The embittered Fae woman cursed Prince Kellen with the face a toad. But she wasn't completely heartless. Prince Kellen had one thousand years to find a woman to fall in love with him, or he'd pass the remainder of his wretched life wearing the face of a monster.
Chapter 1
Bethany Walters hunched her shoulders , and hurried down the dark and deserted sidewalk. Hereford, Texas may not be a metropolis, but it was wonderful, if you could overlook the stench of the feed lots. Locals loved to proclaim it the smell of money, but to her sensitive half-shifter nose, it still smelled like shit.
She'd run into some genuinely kind people. Salt of the earth, give you their last dime kind of folk. When she first arrived, Bethany worried about sticking out in the Texas panhandle town, and not for the obvious reason. No one cared that she was black, but if they discovered her paternity...
Well, that might be a different story.
Pausing at the curb, she waited for the mud splattered pickup truck with enormous tires to pass. She should have just gone for it, and dashed across the street. Instead, she took one last look over her shoulder at Collin's, the pub she tended bar the last two months. Not even the sheen of tears improved the streaked front window or the faded sign hanging over the door.
Calling it a pub may be a stretch. It resembled a honky-tonk, complete with peanut shells strewn on the floor. A perfect place to get lost and simultaneously find a home. Wrapping her fingers around the straps of the messenger bag, she jogged across the road, hoping she'd be as fortunate in the next city. Maybe I'll go to Austin or Hou—
Please…
A shaky female voice interrupted Bethany's fantasy of a perfect life in an almost perfect place. Don't ...
the plea faded and turned into a soft sob.
Nope. Not my circus.
She pressed her messenger bag against her body and lengthened her strides—in the opposite direction. She paused, looking both ways, before jogging crossed the street. Why the hell did I get a tune-up today?
God, she was tired of running. Putting down roots and building an ordinary life sounded like paradise.
No.
This time the scream held a frenzied urgency.
Bethany stopped on the sidewalk, tipped her head back, and studied the heavens. Damn it.
The last thing she needed was to get mixed up with the sheriff because she beat the crap out of some yahoo. I'm so sorry,
she whispered, looking toward the darkened alley next to Palmer's Feed Store. Then she stiffened as the fur-ruffling smell of death and magic tickled her nose. Fuck it.
She cocked her head left, then right, the bones in her neck popping and loosening as she prepared for a fight.
Bethany darted across the street, ignoring the screeching tires and blaring horn of the white Suburban behind her, and followed her nose. In the shadowed area just beyond the loading platform stood her undead prey surrounding a human woman.
Hey boys, I thought dinner had to volunteer these days.
She bent her arms and shrugged. I don’t know, but from where I'm standing, she's not looking like a happy meal.
Bethany focused on the three vampires, especially the tall Hispanic and way-too-handsome-to-be-dead vamp behind the woman cradling her chin like a lover with his long, tanned fingers. Release her.
Are you volunteering? You’re an acceptable substitute.
The vampire trailed a finger along the woman's carotid artery. Then we should discuss dessert.
His sleazy gaze meandered down Bethany’s body, and he licked his lips.
Ew.
Unless hell has frozen over, you're shit out of luck.
Bethany twisted the latch on her bag, but left it closed. Having to fight with it slung across her body wasn't ideal, but she'd just received her last paycheck, plus a generous bonus. No way would she risk leaving the alley without her money and the woman. Have you considered a withdrawal from the blood bank?
I prefer mine straight from the vein, little wolf.
The second fang face grinned, not bothering to hide the sharp glistening white teeth.
Don’t knock it until you try it, little girl.
The woman’s words came out a sultry purr. It's almost as good as sex.
She tilted her chin higher, exposing the dark roots beneath the mile-high hair.
Seriously?
Once again, Bethany dashed into a situation without thinking, without checking it out fully. Her soft heart and sense of duty placed her at ground zero for danger—and it wasn't the first time. You betrayed one of your own, for them?
You’re not human,
the idiot woman taunted.
Didn’t that bimbo get it? When the three of those idiots finished, she’d lie as lifeless and broken as the pallets next to her. No human or vampire male would take a woman to an alley for anything other than a quick screw, and screwed the traitor would be. With a glare at the three walking corpses, Bethany disregarded stealth and all pretense of civility as she retrieved the retractable silver short sword her mother gave her on her fifteenth birthday. That felt like eons ago, rather than ten.
Fancy hardware, but you know silver won't kill us.
"True dat, but I have yet to meet
