    Cursed Pride - Cara St.Clair

    1

Daniel Savage looked upon his family and thought life couldn’t get any more perfect. Playing in a clearing in the forest behind their estate, his little boy, Tuck, was running back and forth between his wife Eva and himself. Tuck’s nanny, Mrs. Munn, was looking on from underneath a shady tree on one side of the clearing. Today was one of those rare days that he got to play hooky from work and be with his family. He was a lucky man, indeed. His Lion agreed, purring deep inside of him. It was a perfect day.

It seemed that more and more of his work owning a very lucrative mill was sucking away time from the things he loved best: his family and his Pride. As Alpha, the responsibility for the welfare of an entire Pride of lion shifters lay upon his shoulders. Not that he minded it – he loved knowing that he could make sure his Pride was safe and secure. Days like today, he just couldn’t ignore the call of his heart.

Right now, with his little boy running towards him, the wind in his hair and love in his eyes, he could think of nothing more than how damn lucky he was. Eva, his beautiful mate, was running after Tuck, trying to catch up with him. When she caught up to both of them, she threw her arms around Tuck and cried, Got you!

Tuck squealed with glee and buried his head in his mother’s breast. Damn, Eva’s beauty still took his breath away. He couldn’t believe that this goddess was his. With dark cascading tresses, golden eyes, and a body that made his mouth water, his lioness could make him hard with a single look. As Tuck stifled a yawn, Eva slanted him a look over her son’s head that held a promise of heaven. Daniel smiled back at her and quirked a brow, fully intending to take her up on the unspoken invitation.

Mrs. Munn ambled over to them, clucking about a nap for the boy and complaining about her old bones. Daniel had a sneaking suspicion that the nanny had a sixth sense about children because she always seemed to appear at the exact right moment – just before the young werelion had a meltdown. The old were-lioness had been Daniel’s nanny when he was a boy, and he loved her dearly. But right now, he needed his wife and was more than happy to let Tuck go off for a nap.

Eva would be leaving in two days’ time, going to visit her brother, Charles in Chicago. Her brother was taking the plunge and getting married to Jessica, an orphaned daughter of the Pride. Since Eva and Charles’ parents had died in an accident three years ago, and Jessica was an orphan, Eva wanted to help prepare for their big day. Daniel already didn’t want his wife to go, but he knew that she would be safe in Charles’ capable hands.

Tuck whined again about wanting a sweet, and Mrs. Munn put out her arms for him. Daniel gently took his complaining son from his wife. Pulling him into his chest for a rough hug, he ruffled Tuck’s blonde hair, so like his own, as he kissed him and handed him off to Mrs. Munn.

Come now, little Matthew, it’s past time for your nap. Tuck hated being called Matthew, even though it was his real name. That’s exactly why Mrs. Munn used it when she knew he was going to put up a fuss. She let him know that there would be no arguing. It’s a fair stroll back to the house, now, so let’s be on about it. Winking at Daniel, Mrs. Munn bundled the grumpy six-year-old off for a rest.

Eva watched them leave the little clearing, smiling softly. When they were gone, she turned her bright golden gaze on her husband. Walking toward him, her soft hands moved to the buttons of his shirt. I have plans for you, husband.

Daniel growled with satisfaction as she ran her hands up his chest to the buttons at his throat. Is that a fact, Mrs. Savage? He ran his hands down the length of her arms until he rested them on her hips. He pulled her closer to him, brushing the tips of her breasts on his chest. Well, as it happens, I’m not going back to work this afternoon, so I’m all yours.

    Oh? She purred,
