Introduction
Let’s say something happens and you find that you suddenly have to leave your place in haste, without knowing where you are going, or having plans for what you want to do next. You leave with your family and head straight for the hills within a very short space of time. Do you think you would be able to grab a bag before leaving? I’m not talking about just any bag; I mean a specially-prepared bag that contains everything you and your family will need to begin what could be an indefinite period of time where survival without the luxuries of civilized society becomes a necessity! If your answer is ‘no’, then I would say you have picked up the right book. Every home should have a bug-out bag. A bag for each member of the family, packed with everything each person would need for survival.
The contents of the bug-out bag are put in to cater for survival for at least seventy-two hours in the event of an emergency that has forced you and your family to flee from your home. Bug-out bags are useful for many kinds of disasters. Such disasters could be natural and temporary ones like hurricanes, earthquakes, tornadoes and flash floods. Man-made and long-term disasters could be in the form of ecological collapses, economic collapses, wars, plagues or pandemics. Although resorting to the use of your bug-out bag should be your last resort, in a bid to keep yourself and your family alive, preparing your bug-out bag should not be the last thing you think of doing. Your bug-out bag should be a well-thought-out and well-prepared backup plan.
Not to be put off for sometime later, it must be readied and kept somewhere stocked up and ready. Be prepared! You also need to have a bug-out destination. Your bug-out bag should be able to keep you catered for at least seventy-two hours. There is no guarantee that you will be able to continue surviving on the left over contents of your bug-out bag after seventy two-hours. If you still have any more items left, they would be very minimal after this length of time. You need to have someplace you can go to and be sustained for a longer period. In this book we will be focusing on what to pack in your bug-out bag, where you should go to as soon as your bug-out bag is spent, and what skills you will need to survive a SHTF situation.
Let’s start with what you should do with your bug-out bag. When preparing it, begin with drawing up a list of everything you might need in the event of a disaster. Each bug-out bag will be slightly different from another, depending on what the disasters a person is preparing for. When preparing your bag, start with a list of everything you’ll need. Each bug-out bag will be different depending on what’s in it. Not everything written in your list will find its way into your bug-out bag.
However, you can start by making a list of the necessary items that you know will be of tremendous use during an emergency. This is a good place to start. Once
