About this ebook
Jen and Shirley Ann had been best friends in Palm Springs, CA. for more than 31 years. Even after Shirley Ann married and divorced Jen's older brother, they remained friends. Although both owned homes in Palm Springs, Jen later purchased a home in Colorado so she could be near her ailing mother Pauline. Once Jen moved, Shirley Ann made frequent weekend trips to the new home to visit and go hiking. During one of those weekends, Pauline suddenly died and, because she was so cheap, her insurance policy didn't cover the transportation for returning her body to Palm Springs for cremation. So, guess who was charged with that grisly chore? The spooky journey would not only test their friendship, but it would be an adventure they would always remember!

It was two a.m. when Shirley Ann's car pulled into the front yard at Jenevieve's Colorado home. Once she was parked, a light illuminated at the front door and Jen, her short, stocky frame shrouded in a nightgown, appeared on the porch.
I'm glad to see you made it,
she said.
It's been a long drive,
Shirley Ann replied.
Moments later, Shirley Ann, tall and thin, with two bags in tow, was in the foyer of the home, hugging her long-time friend.
It's good to see you,
Jen said. Go to the guest room and get a good night's sleep. I'll serve coffee at eight.
Thanks,
Shirley Ann replied. By ten tomorrow, I want to be on the hiking trail at Henderson's Peak.
We'll both be there,
Jen replied.
Good night,
Shirley Ann said.
Good night,
Jen replied.
Some twenty minutes later, as Shirley Ann prepared for bed, her thoughts wandered back to her friendship with Jen. Beginning in high school in 1962, they had become fast friends in Palm Springs, California. Even after Shirley Ann married and divorced Jen's older brother Glenn, they remained close friends. Now, in 2005, they had been friends for more than 40 years. Although both owned homes in Palm Springs, Jen later purchased the Colorado home so she could be near her ailing mother, Pauline. After Jen moved, Shirley Ann made frequent weekend trips from Palm Springs to Colorado to visit and go hiking.
Finally finished in the bathroom, Shirley Ann crawled into bed
