About this ebook

Count Dorkula, I Presume?

A short story with fast pacing and a lot of heart, Count Dorkula follows a greatly misunderstood surgeon and his new assistant as they go from just a very good team to a couple. Unfortunately for them, the jealous staff of their small hospital is not thrilled with this development especially the nurse who had thought that she would be the one to end up with the tall, dark and mysterious doctor.

After the nurse pushes too far and loses her job she sets a whole new plan in action, one that can end up being the difference between life and death unless the brilliant doctor can put the pieces together and get to his lady love’s side quickly enough.

Chapter One: Sometimes Hell Is on the Fifth Floor

Miranda Venice was angry and that did not sit well with her. Her mother’s boyfriend had just died and the behavior of the staff when they came to the hospital room was egregious. After shouting at the nurses and other staff members she had demanded to speak to someone in charge. The head honcho! The big cheese! She was not going to be satisfied until she had chewed on someone who had some clout. She glared at the head nurse and squared her shoulders. Where... she said, biting off each word in a vain attempt to remain at least passably civil. ...is the Chief of Staff’s office?

At this, every single member of the staff gasped and visibly pulled back. Finally the head nurse sighed. We are searching for his replacement at this time. Our Chief of Surgery is acting as Chief of Staff until we hire someone new. You will find him on the fifth floor. But, honey? I wouldn’t really do that if I was you. Dr. Tedesceau is a little difficult to deal with and you have just had a major stress...

Miranda heard only part of this warning because she was already marching down the hallway to the elevators. She had pushed every button with her stubby fingers but the elevator was not going to come fast enough. Still raging, she pulled open the heavy door and started jog/marching up the stairs, pleased at how loud her footsteps sounded. She was only slightly out of breath when she arrived on the fifth floor. She looked around and found that there was only one office here- the office of Dr. D. Tedesceau, Surgeon. The main door to the office was open, revealing a small, cluttered desk and an incessantly ringing telephone. Just as Miranda stepped in a harried middle-aged woman rushed out, almost knocking her down in the process. Excuse me, ma’am. Is... Miranda started but was stopped immediately.

"If and when his lordship comes out of his little cave in there you can tell him that I quit and that he can send my last paycheck directly to my therapist because that’s what I’ll be needing after working for the likes of him for more than
