About this ebook

When Wendy Jackson lands a job at the local station, she is excited about her future as a disc jockey. Behind the microphone she can be anything that she wants to be, and her plus size frame simply doesn't matter.

That is until the day when the station requires that she host a bachelor auction only to discover that one of the available men is the one she always wanted.

Michael Carter, the man of her dreams, burned her once before, overlooking her as just another face in the crowd.

Should she dare to believe that he's no longer the superficial guy from college and that he just might be her perfect match?

In a face to face meeting where hearts are on the line and emotions run high, this is one high stakes game of Truth or Dare that she will never forget!

    About The Author

    Chapter One

Wendy Jackson pulled open the door to the WKSS radio station building, the crisp Chicago fall air nipping at her heels. She’d been at top-rated Kiss FM for just a few weeks, but she already felt at home with her co-workers. Excited about her job, she stepped into the lobby, a bounce in her step, a smile on her face.

Her new black trench coat swirled around her ankles as she pulled open the sash and then slipped out of it, revealing the cute black top and dark wash jeans she’d bought the day before. Three inch black heels completed the outfit perfectly. The clothes hugged her in all the right places, accentuating each curve. And Wendy certainly had her share of curves, her voluptuous frame something she no longer felt was a hindrance, nor something she should hide away behind baggy black clothing like she did back in high school. These days she felt far more confident and was almost at the point where she was even proud of her curves. Almost.

Hey, Wendy. Amy smiled at her from behind the reception desk. And don’t you look great tonight! Got a hot date later or something?

Just with the microphone upstairs, Wendy replied with a grin. I’ll let you know if that changes, though. She suddenly frowned, thinking, and couldn’t really remember, the last date she’d had, or at least the last date she’d want to remember.

She walked briskly through the lobby, taking the elevator to the top floor. From here, the broadcast studios all had panoramic views of the Chicago skyline. She glanced at her watch; she still had some time before she was on the air, so she detoured by her office with the intent to check her email and sort through the piles of paper waiting for her in her in-box. As she stepped through the office door, she was surprised to find Lorrie and Tom, the morning drive time DJs, sitting on the couch in her office.

Hey, guys. She moved behind her desk. You’re here late. What’s up?

Lorrie and Tom glanced at each other, and in that quick exchange, Wendy immediately sensed trouble. Tom leaned forward, elbows resting on his knees, a mischievous grin on his face.

The boss had us working late on a promotion that got all messed up. And then it occurred to us. You’d be perfect to help us out, fix this jam, and even help your ratings. Not that you really need the help, but still…it’ll get you noticed, in a good way.

Perfect? To do what? Noticed how? Wendy narrowed her eyes at the pair. You two are up to no good.

Lorrie waved her hand. This is work related! The station manager has us working on the upcoming Junior League Bachelor Auction. Their hostess backed out and he wanted us to MC the event, but it’s a little awkward…

Tom picked up the conversation. It’s a little awkward for me to MC a bachelor auction. It’s…too weird describing the attributes of a herd of eligible guys to a bunch of women. I don’t think my wife would approve.

So what’s my role in this? Wendy held up her hands. Oh, no…uh-uh. I know where you’re going with this and no way. I’m not doing it.

"Well, it’s a little late for that. Patterson has already given us the green light…or you the green light. You’ll be on stage Friday night, day after tomorrow. The other DJ dropped out unexpectedly and Patterson tapped us. And, like I said, it’s too weird for Tom to do this." Lorrie was smiling, like it was some really fantastic idea. Wendy was still shaking her head. It wasn’t such a fantastic idea, any way she looked at it.

Tom leaned back, throwing an arm across the back of the couch, grinning at her. Besides you’re such a flirt on the air. Guys love that sexy voice of yours, all silk and sin and stuff. His grinned deepened, and Wendy rolled her eyes.

Just make sure your wife doesn’t hear you saying that. Lorrie poked Tom in the arm. He scowled at her, brows drawn together. Lorrie went on.

So you’re a natural. With your journalism background, you’re used to being in front of a crowd. You’ll have them all at your command. The glint in Lorrie’s eye deepened and Wendy’s heart skipped a beat. Nervously, she wound an errant strand of hair around her finger, shifting uncomfortably in her chair. It had been a long time since she’d been at a press conference. And this wasn’t the same. She’d be the center of attention, not the person hiding behind a microphone.

Friday? I don’t have anything to wear. Wendy sat back, arms crossed. That would put an end to this…or so she hoped.

No problem. We told Patterson, with such short notice, that you’d probably say that. He’s springing for a dress…a borrowed dress, but a dress nonetheless…from that trendy boutique on North Michigan. What’s it called? Amelia’s? Angela’s?

Andrea’s. Lorrie turned to Wendy. "It’ll be fun. You’ll get to wear some drop dead piece of clothing, some fancy jewels, have a free dinner and spend about
