    CHAPTER ONE

    THE night had already folded her twinkling spotted black blanket in capitulation to the rising sun; though it was an unusual retreat as it was still around 6a.m. all the students in the Hostel-Gemini Hall were still cuddled under their duvets not acquiescing to the compelled early waking of the ferocious tyrant of the day. Gemini Hall was one of the hostels reserved for the iconic ladies on campus. The previous night which was Friday was spent in different night clubs and parties wearing them out to the bones.

    Dunni also rolled from one end to the other on her bed. Her eyes felt very heavy yet sleep refused to cast her spell on her. A severe ache palpitated diligently in her head. In a split second she thought what torture and agony the mortar must have gone through in the hand of the apathetic pestle in making the African manna popularly called Pounded Yam.
